the thule rack that hangs on to the back hatch is actually really good. it just clips around the hatch itself, no hitches or roof racks needed

this is the one i have (or damn close to it) http://www.thuleracks.com/product.asp?dept_id=8&sku=911

and it looks way better on the magnum. just remembered, the only downside to this one (and pretty much any rack that mounts like this) is that you cannot use your rear wiper while this is on the car, due to the fact that there is a piece that sits on the window. but you can still open the hatch with the rack on there, but you probably should take the bikes off before you do so.

Any rack that touches a painted surface on your car will scratch it. You can clean, wax all you want but it will still scratch. Think about this, ever drive your Magnum on a beautiful day and look at the back? Dust and dirt love the back of our cars. That will get in between the rack and the surface no matter how had you try a prevent it. If minor scratching is not a worry for you then you should be fine with a good name brand rack. MHO using numerous racks for the last 20 years.

Thule roof racks are the shiz. Get the one that clamps onto the roof at the doors, it's bulletproof, doesn't scratch (no shifting), and lets you put anything you want on it. There may come a time when you want to put something other than bikes up there (my father and I moved a few hundred feet of wood to build a deck in our kayak racks) - you can get kayak racks, ski racks, bike racks, surfboard racks, roof boxes...The list goes on and on. It will cost a little bit more to get set up initially since Thule and Yakima sell their products a la carte, but once you have the base system, you just need to buy the sport-specific attachments. You're looking at about $250 to get setup through Thule or Yak - $55 for the feet, $100 for the loadbars, and $75-$150 for specific carriers.
I have roof racks on my 300C during the summer sometimes, I would NEVER go with a trunk rack due to the scratching concerns and the ugly as hell aesthetics at play.

I put this Yakima rack on every couple months or so. Never even the slightest scratching. Before the mag, it was on my old Acura for 2 years straight and absolutely no scratches there either. It has very soft rubber feet. I don't leave it on now cause its kinda ugly and probably kills gas mileage!

I had a Yak rack on a Mini Cooper S. Anything more than a day and it would scratch the heck out of the roof. The Mini has plastic rain gutters so you would not be able to crank it down like other cars but it would still be snug.

yeah if you got heavy mountain bikes it's a hassle. My road bikes are ~19 lb each. Very easy to lift up.

GMachineDartGT doesn't look like much now, but drinking milk does wonders
I use a hidden hitch and a hitch mount Yakima. I can pull the whole deal into the garage. Can't do that with roof mount...
