Anyone know cost to replace the OEM torque converter? Mine is dying for the FOURTH time. The previous three were covered under powertrain warranty, so I'm curious what it's going to cost me. I'm looking for parts + labor.
Similarly, anyone know cost to replace the whole transmission?
its goning to be alot of $$$ to replace the entire trans [$5000] to replace with a new unit. rebuilt will be around $2700. A least thats what they are getting to do it here in south fla.
IF your burning up convertors there has to be a problem with the front pump in the trans.

4th convertor??? Theres a few TSB's on Trans issues, but most are water intrusion issues. With resealing the dipstick seal.
TSB Said "This condition may occur when only a small 0.5% concentration of water is present in the automatic transmission fluid. It will be very important to ensure that the transmission and torque converter is thoroughly flushed of any water and other possible contaminants."
But after 4 of them, I'd hope all the water is out.
Is it shuttering? What seems to be wrong with it?
How long was the last one replaced? Wondering if theres something the dealership hasn't checked. Like a Pump!

Well I had an aftermarket one installed and it cost me..uh..like 320 to get installed. That being said, I have an OEM TQ verter laying around if you r interested. It's form an R/T.

Let me clarify...
At ~45k miles (~ 2 yrs ago), the shuddering was terrible. The dealer went through 3 torque converters (and other parts) over the course of a month before they deemed the trans was fully flushed and back up to snuff.
Fast forward 2 yrs and I'm now just shy of 90k miles and the shuddering is back. Not as bad as last time, but I'm forced to autostick to avoid bucking in the bottom of 4th gear and it's hesitating off the line, especially when cold.
So pissed that I foresaw this mess coming and there's nothing I can do to avoid paying on my dime. Nothing like a band aid they place under warranty that comes undone when it's my turn to pay.

have you checked it for codes? check it even if the lights not on. check the fluid condition, and maybe pull the pan and check for material in the pan. silver metal flake is from a convertor. just find it hard to believe that its just a bad convertor. ill do some checking on my end..
These transmissions are pretty cheap on EBay. I just bought one out of Florida with the converter for $500. My dealer quoted me $3200 for a new one btw.

the cap comes off quite easily. plus you could always just put the fluid back in it if you dont have the dipstick. plus u can buy the dipstick on e-bay. but you need to know what the temp of the fluid is to properly check the fluid level.
