Looks like my water pump is leaking a little bit. Cant really tell where. Looks like around the seal and maybe from the weep hole. Every thing I see is dry no visible leak right now. Can I replace the pump with out taking the whole front end off. I got home today and smell antifreeze. opened the hood and you can see just a little bit of dried antifreeze on the edge of the water pump and on some of the pulleys. It has 126000 miles on it so I am thinking its about time to do it? This is a pic of the back of the water pump pulley.

I assume 5.7 water pump replacement is the same with 6.1.
From here: http://www.lxforums.com/board/f74/6-1-water-pump-write-up-needed-yes-i-searched-326529/

Remove serpentine belt, remove 10ish bolts in the water pump, reverse process. What more would you like to know? Buy a new water pump and it will be pretty self explanatory from there. If you need to know how to service the coolant system in general (drain, fill, bleed) I think there's an article in the knowledge base.
make sure you keep the bolts sorted out as they are different lengths. i used a piece of cardboard that I drew a simple outline of the water pump on, then pushed the bolts through it. It's an easy job, even easier if you take the fans out.

I didn't use any RTV at all. Only thing I replaced was the pump. However, I did a motor swap a year ago and the dingelberry that put the pump onto the new motor bent the shaft when pressing the pulley on, so as you can imagine, the pump went to sh!t. Everything was less than a yr old and less than10k on it. So, just the pump.

There is a rubber gasket for water pump--no RTV needed. Drain the radiator first from Wilson's cut and paste steps. I would recommend the upper and lower hoses (I have the special locking tool for the clamps-otherwise its a pain with vise grips-you can borrow or purchase, they are pretty cheap). Also serpentine belt and think about idler pulley and tensioner pulley. On my 05 those needed replacing after 100K and are very easy to do with the belt off.

I had not thought about the idler pully but sounds like a good idea. I am buying a good set of the hose clam plyers today I dont like spending time trying to be cheap. I have a how to from Chrysler and it says to remove the fans but I cant figure why. Looks like it should come right out. I read a write up on another forum a guy had a 3.5 I think and he was talking about the timeing being out on one bank after he replaced the water pump. Whats that all about. I may give the apperance that I dont know what I am doing but I am just making sure I have not over looked any thing. I have been working on cars along time and I know that its the little things that you dont know about or over look that cause you to have to go back and do the job over again. Thanks for all the help guys it is very much appriciated.

There is no way possible to knock the timing off on a hemi by swapping the water pump. You will need to swap one pulley from the old pump (lower left when looking at the pump). Pop the cover off and there is a bolt under. No need to pull the fans out. No RTV needed. O-ring on the heater pipe should be fine. New pump will have new gasket. Simple R&R job. I second replacing the hoses and belt if needed at the same time.

I got the old water pump off. The seal had been leakin in a few places out the side. The seal was all twisted and looked like hell. There is a little bit of pitting on I think the timing chain cover?. I put a little bit of silicone on my finger and filled in pitted areas hopeing to keep the new one from leaking. Any one else had this pitting on the timing chain cover.

Eek..I would have gotten a new gasket. They are reuseable, that's why not with Mopar pump. The pitting on timing cover is oxidation of the aluminum probably from damp winter, my 05 had a ton of it from sitting too much. I have an aluminum cleaner spray that removes that.
3.5 write up is totally different animal--their water pump is UNDER the timing cover and behind timing belt. Must change for any 3.5 doing timing belt at 100k
