How to remove the door panels
by Jim
Whats Required:
The tools that are required are:
* Phillips Head Screw Driver
* Trim Tool, or a flat rigid tool that can be used for prying(i.e. a butter knife)
* Pliers
Removal:
* Remove "Hidden" screws:
There are two hidden screws on the door trim.
o Upper (Fig. 1)
Remove the cover by inserting the trim tool at the bottom of the cover and pulling out and up.
o Lower (Fig. 2)
Remove the cover by inserting the trip tool at the top of the cover and pulling out and down.
* Remove Push Tabs:
There are three push tabs that have to be removed (Fig. 3). To remove them take a blunt instrument and push in the middle of the tab (Fig. 4) and pull it out. To reinstall the tab push the middle back through the tab so that its sticking out the front.
* Remove Screws:
There are four screws holding the door trim on along the lower and front edges.
* Removing the Trim:
o Pull the lower half away from the door enough that the trim can be moved upward.
- There are 2 plastic extensions on the trim that fit into the door to hold it in place. By pulling the lower half of the door out you are moving them out of their sockets allowing the door panel to be moved upwards.(Fig. 5)
- There are 3 plastic push pins hold the upper half of the trim onto the door. (Fig. 6) When I pulled mine off the just pulled off the trim and stayed in the door so I had to remove them manually using the pliers after the trim was completely removed. They just slide right back onto the trim.
o Gently pull the trim upwards but do not pull it away from the door yet!
- Pay close attention to the door lock pin on the upper right corner. (Fig. 7)
o After the trim has been pulled over the door lock pin pull the panel away from the door about 6 inches. When you look between the trim and the door you'll see the door handle lever attached to the door handle. You need to disconnect that from the handle by twisting the white holder thats on the handle counter clock wise until it releases the lever. (Some how I missed getting a picture of this step)
o Disconnect any wiring harnesses that are attached to the door panel, on the Magnum this will most likely just be the power window/locks switch and power mirror adjuster. (Fig. 8)
o Now gently pull the panel away from the door and set aside. Be sure to put it on something secure and soft. The material used on the door panel can be easily scuffed or dinged so be careful. I recommend putting down a blanket to set it on well away from your work area.
Installation
* Start by connecting the wiring harnesses.
* Reconnect the door handle lever, be sure to secure it by twisting the white holder onto it clock-wise.
* Slide the panel down onto the door being sure to slide the door lock pin through its hole.
* Reinsert the white push pins into their slots to hold the door in place while you finish reinstalling the trim.
* Reinsert the push tabs. To lock them push the middle back in so that is flush.
* Screw the four lower screws back in.
* Screw the two upper screws back in and push their covers back into place.
