    Shop recomendations, Atlanta area

I -might-, just might be able to do 'something' to my motor this year, whether a cam or headers or both and I'd like to tour/visit a shop in the greater Atlanta area that has the skills to not screw up my car.

And by 'Greater Atlanta' I'm thinking like 'within 100 miles' or so.

    Anyone have any recomendations?

    Mike

Yes - I can help you. I lived in Dallas GA for a long while and (as you may know) some of the cars built for the "Fast and Furious" movies were built in Cartersville GA north of the perimeter off of I 75. I believe Exit 289. I will have to find the name of the shop but I know it's right off of Dallas Hwy.

These guys live to do what you are looking for. The name is listed at the begining of the movie. It just leaves me at the moment. I guess I'll have to watch the movie againg to figure it out. lol

The more I talk to Roberto down at Palmer Dodge, the more I like them. For anything that is bolt-on, I'd use them in a heartbeat. For internal stuff like cams/heads/etc., I'd have to do a bit more sniffing, but from what I've seen so far, they are quite competent. And getting it done at a dealership may minimize warranty issues.

FWIW, I was there today showing him my new ride and the following conversation took place:

Roberto: "You really oughta get all that dealer crap off the back"

Me: "Yeah, but I'm not sure what to use. It looks like the used a stencil and painted it on there."

Roberto: "Nah, thats not paint...just thin vinyl. Just take a hairdryer to it. That'll heat up the glue and you can peel it right off."

Me: "Umm..." [showed him my bald spot and otherwise short hair] "...I don't own a hairdryer. Haven't needed one for years."

Robert: "Well, hell, just pull it into the shop. I've got a heat gun we can use."

Yep! He was on duty but stopped what he was doing to help me clean up the look of my car - a car I bought at a DIFFERENT dealer, mind you - absolutely free of charge! He got the stuff off and then cleaned & polished the area quite nicely. At this point he's earned as much business from me as I can throw at him!

If you can get a dealer to do the work your speaking of, I guess that would be a good direction. However, I doubt very much that a dealer would do the work due to warranty issues and making themselves responsible for the outcome and longevity of engine performance.

One direction to take would be to talk to the shop mechanics off to the side. They may be willing to do the work at a private shop or suggest someone that will. In all cases you will be lucky to get anyone at a dealer to do or suggest work that involves engine alterations. Bolt on's or other addition that fall into the scope of acceptable warranty work is a different world.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Looks like I have some phone calls to make - but I don't want to get to excited yet, still have to see how well the money-tree flowers next month.

I have to do -something- to make sure that Glenn doesn't dust me at Commerce next year, y'know?

Outstanding - I live in Pensacola Fl but travel back and fourth to pick up my kids and see my mother who lives on the Commerce/Madison county line. I grew up around that track and my mother’s house (where I grew up) is about 6 miles as the crow flies. That means that every weekend if I wasn't at the track, I was sitting in my back yard listening to the dragsters. I'm at the Southern Nationals every year for sure and haven’t missed it for 15 years straight.

We will have to figure out how to meet and I will have to figure out how to get to the track one Friday night. Also, I know several shops around that area with great mechanics that can help you with your quest for HP. My brother in-law, step brother and several friends race stock cars and dragsters so finding someone you can trust will not be a problem. Let me know and I'll hook you up with some quality people to talk to.

Thanks for the tip and, seeing as this is your first post, here's a big, hearty to our world!

What part of ATL are you located in? We've got several here on the forum, but we tend to be somewhat scattered and dispersed.

I think it would be cool if we in the Greater Atlanta Traffic Zone could get together for a mini-meet-n-greet. Heck, I live on a cul-de-sac in Cumming, lots of parking, cool neighbors - c'mon over and we'll drink some beer and fire up the barbecue!!

And there's already a 40'+ black mark in the road out front - haven't a clue where that came from either.

and I wasn't there that day...

I agree we need to set up something. There are a few of us that live in the city that would be interested.
