Shindig track visit...

As I posted on the attendance thread, we want to try something a little different. I have heard some were very unhappy about not being able to clear the exit and then the "high speed chase" on the interstate. This time we will visit the Middle Georgia Raceway. This track has a lot of Mopar History along with Nascar and general racing. It is a "ghost track" that has withstood the temptation of making it a housing development.

A little history of the track shows it was opened in 1966. Legends like Bobby Allison and Richard Petty raced on this track. The Georgia 500 was raced here along with the Speedy Morelock 200. The law located a working moonshine still in the 1970's and raided it after a race. The still was located under turn three. The entrance to the room can still be seen today. After the the '70's, Nascar ran only sanctioned races and it was used as a local track. The Atlanta Pop Festival was held there and greats such as Jimi Hendrix and the Allman Brothers played for a crowd of thousands. Parts of the movie Greased Lightning were fimed here and just recently Dodge fimed the new Durango commercials here. Justin Bell filmed an episode of Ebay Motors World's Fastest Car Show where he put the new Charger SRT-8 through its paces. I had the good fortune to ride with him and it was an incredible expirence.

My plan is to provide all participants with a map to the meeting place that will be near the track. The track is approx 15 miles from the Agricenter up the interstate. We will have an escort for the last two miles because it is easier to travel slowly for two miles rather than 120 for ten miles. The owner allows "parade laps" and doesn't mind burnouts on the track surface. The track is in wonderful shape and we should be able to have fun out there. It will be a great opportunity to get some good photos of all the cars.

The owner asks that we provide a $5.00 track preservation fee for each car. The money along with the normal waiver of liabiltiy will get us on the track. For those who have not had their car on a banked track, it is an expirence.

Please post up if this would be interesting to the group. I really don't know how to make an attendance roster or a sticky, so I will just watch it as we get closer.
