Moroso Sports Park - 12/10/2006 recap from a West Coaster

So goes the story of the trip to south Florida...

It was a dark and early morning when the cell phone rang from a FL Lxforum.com member called taking me up my offer of a ride to get his car 45 minutes away in Ft. Lauderdale and attend the car show. The caller was wbornio who has a very nice Magnum R/T that he (and I mean literally) financially stole this car from the dealer. It was 7am something when the cell rang…
My gosh it’s early. Its 4:30am pst back home. What did I say last night on the boards to this guy to have him call me so early? As I slowly opened my eyes the memories of hammering out on the keyboard the offer of picking up a fellow LX’er sprang to my mind. I told him I would be up, ready and out the door in 12-14 minutes. Because that’s how we do it in So. Cal. – no matter where we roll we help each other out. I had no idea where I was going other than the south beach area where there were some boats. I put the hammer down on the trusty SXT V-6 National car rental unit. Man does this baby wind out… just saying please don’t beat on me anymore. Sunday morning traffic in Miami is so light I had thoughts that maybe there was as hurricane on the way and I had missed the warning. So I roll up to the meet spot to pick up wbornio – man o’ man! You should have seen the boats docked here at the address I was picking up wbornio at; the smallest I could see was a 55-60’ cabin cruiser cigarette style. Folks I am talking about some serious boats – These things ranged from 55’-250’ and had to range from 5-50 million – yes million – and this guy drives an R/T that I am picking up? I’m saying to myself. COOL! When the boat was pointed out to me, I was like no way! A helicopter! COOL!!! I find out he works on the boat, he doesn’t own it – darn! No boat cruise while in FL for this kid. So we head up to get his car. He finds out what cbutler32 drives like – fast – always! I give him credit he only grabbed the hand hold twice. We get his ride and hit the road – It took everything I had to stay with his R/T when he hit it. And I found out the governor on the SXT is 114 (at least on this rental car on this particular morning on the 95) We made great time and arrived at Moroso sports park literally as the FLXC group was rolling in; 20 deep!!! Man, what a great set-up this place was. The ticket taker asked me “if I was going to drag race the car today?” HAHAHHAHA was all I could stammer at first. I then drove by the car show coordinators and volunteers and they all just got a great laugh when I told them I would be showing one of National car rental’s better units - Wbornio and I pulled in where the rest of the group was staged. First impressions – SICK RIDES!!! MAJOR MODS!!!
South Florida can represent the LX platform well – in fact, extremely well!!!
Magnums (mainly-duh), chargers (bumblebee seemed to be the favorite color this particular day), 1-300C an SRT8 – not part of the group were 3-4 vipers and some SRT-10 pickups. So everyone did the show and shine detail thing for the next two hours getting the cars ready to be judged. Well this is where it starts to get interesting…
As I have been to a ton of meet and greets – I know how easily you can get bored if you are not doing anything while others are… So someone offers up a rag, then some window cleaner… So I am thinking to myself you are detailing a rental car – are you kidding?!!! But it was cool – the guys and gals got a great laugh.
So at this point I am thinking I should at least wipe the car down too and get ride of the water spots from the rain in the drive to Moroso right? Then I use some interior trim cleaner and wipe down the whole interior… another rag to wipe the rims down… Another to help detail the wheel wells…
Then finishing off the RENTAL car with a nice tire detail. 2 hrs. later.
The last time this car looked this good was when it rolled off of the hauler.
But there was something missing – yep – it still was an SXT though – pretty and all – but embarrassing to be parked next to so many beautiful cars.
I know! I know! I should have driven the Vixen from Cali! J
Upon driving in they gave me a Moroso Sports Park sticker – Perfect!!! It’ll just be like the Vegas road trip. It gets even better – I find a stack of stickers in a sponsor goodie bag.
OH YEAH BABY!!! You know where this is going at this point don’t you? I spend the next 30 minutes stickering the newest FLXC Forums.com honorary car. See the pictures.
So everyone is getting a really good laugh with the new race proven sticker package…
I mean I had stickers on EVERY window.
When wbornio pulls out some tape as he was moving things around in the back of his car – Now mind you my mental state at this point – I am so using this stuff! So I ask wbornio what he is going to use the stuff for? He stammers out a story about how he used it on a FEMA thing or something like that, basically says he doesn’t need it. It’s vinyl – so it will come off easy. I look at the car, do the walk around – and decide to accent the front bumper with 3 strips under the headlights and grill area. OH YEAH!!!
This thing is gonna contend now! I finish off the rear bumper with two strips from rear wheel well to rear wheel well. I have got people who looked at me like I was totally whacked and crazy even chuckling now and saying that it might even contend.
Heck one even said that if it won, he was selling his car…
Well we check each other’s cars out – I met some great people – and I saw some things that are being done that some might want to get some ideas from these guys – their LX’s are SICK!!!
We watch some drag racing – some guys getting into the low 7.00’s at 195mph…
    Yes, I said 7.00’s
We then did a group photo and had some good laughs with that and the video.
It was off to the awards for the car show.
    The FLCX club represented!!!
Winning best car club! And a certain bumblebee R/T won our division much to everyone’s support and stoke for both P & C. NICE RIDE!!!
Well, at this point everyone was heading back and was going to go on their separate ways. And we had been around drag racing all day, a car show, great people and oh – this little 8/10th mile go-cart track – so guess what Mr. cbutler32 and several other members did? Yep, ran for 15 minutes and got the race bug out before heading out on the road. What a great day! What great people I met! And what a great club!
Thanks to everyone who made my trip to south Florida start off on the right foot. I really enjoyed your hospitality and accepting me as a temporary member for the day.
    Thanks FLCX members!!!
    Sincerely,
    Chris Butler
