Clearwater M&G June 25th, Location Change?

In the thread from the last Clearwater M&G, there was discussion about finding a 'shady' location for the next M&G. Maybe a Park.

Here was my input, What does everyone else think?? Find a park? Keep the location? I'll be more than glad to talk to the Parks Dept.

I can check a few out, but Taylor Park is very large and I remember LOTS of shaded parking lots. Don't know how busy it is on a Sunday. Here's the link to Taylor Park:

But we need a permit turned in 60 days ahead of time??

Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Anyone else know of a good park??

Here's a map of the park:

In the upper right corner of the map is the entrance to the park. If you follow the road all the way around the lake to the very end there is Shelter #4 (middle of the map on the left edge to the left of the frisbee golf course) This is the most secluded spot, but also the largest, most uncrowded parking lot in the park. The parking spots are partially shady, but right next to the lot (holds maybe 80 cars?) is Shelter #4 with a bunch of picnic tables and a grill.

Also: You can let us know how many people will be in your party, so we have plenty of food!

Not sure of parks in Florida. But you can put us down on your list. We are from Wheaton Illinois and planning our vacation to Tampa during your m/g. We would love to join you guys.

John Chestnut Park is by my house is is nice. Philippe might be good too, but I am not as familiar with that one. I also have a small park by my house that is part of Lansbrook, where I live. It's on Lake Tarpon and I may be able to rent a pavilion there.

I think we should have a cookout instead of going out to eat. Wherever we meet.

I'm gonna go check out Taylor Park today or tomorrow. Let me know if you'd wanna look into the Lake Tarpon thing.

Apparently more sunburn victims from the Orlando M&G.

    Later.

I'm going to the park today, with Camera. It has more parking lots than any other park I could find, and it's very shady. I'll even get the permit from the county so we're legal! It's only about 10 minutes from the Target, so it won't be much further. More info later!

Okay, here's the scoop. I talked to Dave @ Taylor Park. It's actually in Largo, not Clearwater, same difference.

Here's a link to the website of the park:
    http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/18_Taylor.htm

Here's a map of the park:
    http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/m...ies/TAYLOR.pdf

In the upper right corner of the map is the entrance to the park. If you follow the road all the way around the lake to the very end there is Shelter #4 (middle of the map on the left edge to the left of the frisbee golf course) This is the most secluded spot, but also the largest, most uncrowded parking lot in the park. The parking spots are partially shady, but right next to the lot (holds maybe 80 cars?) is Shelter #4 with a bunch of picnic tables and a grill.

    Cookout????? Potluck????

I actually liked shelters #5 and #6 better (bottom left corner of the map). But you cannot reserve shelter #6, it's first come, first serve. But we could reserve #5. This lot is the most shaded, but unless we reserve #5, and snag #6 on a Sunday morning, before the crowds get there, the 40 or so parking spaces could be filled with NON LX people. We CANNOT block off these parking spots though.

Once again, Dave who works at the park said if we took Shelter #4, way in the back, no one would bother us. Sounds like the place to be!

I've got some pics of the park, but not of Shelter #4, specifically. I am going to call Dave back tomorrow, but he is holding Shelter #4 for us on the 25th of June, from 11am - ???.

As long as you all can keep from swimming in the lake, we'll have no problems with the alligators.

Lastly, unfortunely the sign said "no alcohol". Hmmm.... Coolers and plastic cups??? For soda that is!

Here's a map of where the park is located:
    http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/m...ies/TAYLOR.pdf

    And here's the mapquest version:
    http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...GqPGMCiA%3d%3d

Basically, the park is just southwest of the corner of East Bay and Seminole. Very easy coming over the Howard Franklin Bridge. It's just East of Alt 19. Not as convenient as Target, but looks like a lot more fun and a lot more shade!!!

I need some feedback from you all, so I can turn in the application for a special event. There is no charge from the park. I'm gonna call Dave tomorrow and keep the spot till we all decide.

    Did someone say POTLUCK COOKOUT???

Nice... shelter #4 does look like a great place. It's secluded so we don't get to show off so much, but it's out of the way and looks like we'll get all the parking we need, pluse the shelter, and facilities nearby.

I'm in, with food for grillin (somebody mentioned potluck cookout...)!
