Hemi~C~ planted an idea in my head over the weekend.
He brought up the idea of running "short" (26") drag radials W/the 3.06 SRT axle ratio.
@ 1st I thought that would be too steep & the car would run out of gear before the traps.
On the way home I did some 3rd gear pulls to both 6800 RPM & to 110 MPH to get an idea about what the ideal axle ratio for my particular car would be.
If you look @ any of my dyno pulls you will see that the Crane 216 pulls forever up top & doesn't fall on it's face even @ 6750 RPM where the dyno pull was ended.

I easily pulled to 130 MPH @ 6800 RPM in 3rd gear on the deserted Northern NY state hy-ways on the way home from E'town last week end.
A pull to 110 MPH showed approximately 5800 RPMs.
I did some calculating as to what affect going to to a 26" drag radial would have on the RPM/MPH relationship.
Going to a 26" drag radial would be the same as increasing the axle ratio by 10% when compared to the 28 1/2" BFG KDWSs so taking 3.06 & mutiplyoing it by 1.10, I came up W/an effective axle ratio of 3.37.
The same factors can be used to determine the RPM & a given speed W/that effective FDR.
@ 110 MPH, my RPM would increase from 5800 RPM to 6380 RPM.
Likewise @ 6800 RPM that 130 MPH W/the current axle ratio would come down to 118 MPH.
I definately would not run out of gear. Considering that the short tires will allow the car to accerate better, a perhaps optimistic 115 MPH 1/4 mile blast would have the car @ 6600 RPM, almost ideal for my particular engine combo.
So, now that I have confused & bored you with my mathamatic drivel, let me cut to the chase.
This weekend might be my last shot @ setting a record that will surely soon be eclipsed once people start getting the gearing needed in these 5.7 powered cars.
W/the 3.06 axle ratio & various short drag radials it can now be done.
I said that this might be my last shot because my career @ General Motors is coming to an untimely end & I have spent all of the $$$ I have @ my disposal on my quest. Far more than I should have actually.
There will likely be little $$$ for additional mods or long trips to the track next year.
If someone has a set of 26" drag radials, preferably Mickey Thompson 275/40 17s that they can get to the track for the Friday November 16th T&T, I would be eternaly grateful if I could rip of a few passes on them. Any brand will do however as long as thet are about 26" tall.
Saturday will probably be too busy unless you are not planning on running the tires.
