What is Chat?

As an offshoot of the forums, some people like to speak online in "realtime". Thanks to RobAGD, you now have a chatroom that is accessible directly through our website utilizing a Java applet.

To access chat, click on the Chat link in the navigation bar at the top of your screen:

• A new window will open.
  
• If you have not accepted the java cerificate previously, you will be asked to do so at this point.
  
• You can answer "Yes" to accept it for this session only. "Always" to accept for every session (you will not be asked everytime you login to chat). Or "No" (if you answer "No", you will not be able to access the chatroom utitlizing the Java Applet)

• Once you have accepted the certificate, the applet will load. This may take anywhere from a few seconds to 30 seconds depending on the speed of your internet access:

• Once the applet has loaded and you connect to the chatroom, your chat window should look like this:

• If your username did not come over from the forums, you will have a chat name of "Guest" followed by a series of numbers. If you want to change your chat name (nickname) to match your forum name, write your new name in the box on the bottom right hand corner of the window and hit enter on your keyboard (as shown below):

If you are unable, to use the Java applet provided by LXForums, Rob AGD provided some additional ways to access chat:

Well after hunting around abit and not seeing any good chat rooms for the X crowd I went and registed #LXFourms on slashnet.org's IRC server.

There are a few ways to access this room.

#1 mIRC programs from www.mirc.com its a reasonable download and will allow a better interface than JAVA clients

#2 Mozilla & Netscape I belive have irc clients built into them

For 1 & 2 you just need to select irc.slashnet.org as your server chose a name and connect. Once you connect just type
/join #LXForums and you will join the chat room.

#3 Use Java Chat @ JavaChat

When it loads, type "/join LXForums" without the Quotes and you should join up with the rest of the people there.

Chat is not run by or moderated by LXForums.com. We simply provide a link to this feature.

Please use common sense when using the chatroom and respect the other users who may online. Remember, LXForums has members of all sexes, races (and a few species...). So please keep comments regarding any of the above to yourself.

If you have to think about it before posting it...chances are you shouldn't.
