Thumbs up Underhood Engine Light Mod Write Up!!!! *

    here you go guys, enjoy.
Underhood Engine Light Install Write Up
    1. Parts/Tools
    • Hood Lamp: # 56021441
    • Wiring Harness: # 56051176AB
    • Extra liner fasteners
    • 18 gauge wire
    • In-Line Fuse
    • Wire loom
    • Wire connectors
    • Loops/hooks
    • Wire strippers/crimpers
    • Electrical tape

    2. Remove Hood Liner
    • Carefully pull back one or more tab to expose fastening clips. Pinch the clips with needle nose pliers and carefully remove. I removed the entire liner but this is not necessary, just make sure not to bend the liner too much or you’ll end up with a permanent crease.

    3. Run Wire Harness to Engine Bay
    • Once the liner is removed (partially or fully) run the wiring harness to the engine bay following the windshield washer fluid line. Make sure to remove the fasteners on the harness, they don’t match anything on the hood. Attach the harness to the washer line with zip ties.

    4. Remove End of Wiring Harness, Connect New Wires and fuse, loops/hooks, wire loom
    • Remove the end of the wire harness and connect extra wire and wire loom. I used electrical tape to secure against potential moisture. Cut wire with enough slack to connect to the fuse box. Attach in-line fuse on the positive wire. Crimp loops/hooks and secure with electrical tape.

    5. Trim Slot in Foam
    • I ran the wire loom down the side of the engine bay where I trimmed a slot in the foam shown here. You can choose to follow the washer line into the engine bay but this means drilling a hole in the fire wall.

    6. *Reattach Hood Liner Making Sure That Wiring Harness is Accessible
(Prior to this step you might want to make sure everything is working correctly.)
    • Make sure the wire harness is secured properly and all zip ties are trimmed down.
    • Reattach liner making sure that the wire harness connector is protruding through. This is your last chance to make sure everything is sitting right before you complete the reattachment. You can always re-remove the fasteners but this just heightens the risk of breaking them.
    7. Trim Hood Liner Fastener and Attach Lamp Housing
    • You’ll have to trim the clips on the fastener you use to attach the lamp housing otherwise it will not clear the liner or hook on to the hood correctly.
    • Once lamp housing is attached attach wiring harness.

    8. Connect Ground Wire and Positive Cable
    • Connect the ground wire to ground terminal located on the wheel well.
    • Connect the positive wire to the positive terminal on the side of the fuse box. You can also choose to connect to a fuse within the box but I chose this method instead

    9. …..Enjoy

you might want to install an inline fuse as close as possible to the B+ connection. i'd hate to see your ride go up in flames in the event of a short.

    great mod btw.

thanks for the kind words guys. the lamp housing has a built in mercury switch that is tilt sensitive. it goes on when the hood is 1/4 of the way up and 3/4 of the way down.
