Beltronics 975R Install in a Magnum

    Beltronics 975R Install in Magnum
    by snickle

This is a high-level walk-thru of the install. It is pretty easy. I can’t imagine a 300 would be much harder, but don’t know how the engine compartment is setup.

First pop off the two black plastic covers. They just lift off.

I mounted the racket to the left plastic support.

The manual says to use a #27 drill for the supplied sheet metal screws, I don’t know what a #27 drill is, so I used an 1/8” and a couple of sheet metal screws I had laying around.

There is a ridge along the side of support, place the edge of the bracket against the edge.

I used the supplied lock washers and a little gel super crew as lock-tite.

Mount the antenna of the bracket. Make sure to keep it pointed forward.

Follow the hood release cable with the antenna cable. Cable tie it until you reach the area by the firewall.

In this area, you will attach the second cable to the first here.

Slit the lower part of the boot where the hood release goes through the firewall and pass the cable through. Be care not to damage the little connectors. A useful trick is to stuff the connectors into a straw and tape it up. Then push the straw through.

Now put the cover back I place. Looks stock.

I used Velcro to attach the control panel, just below the ignition. To get the cable here you will need to remove the panel above the pedals. Remove the single screw and the 4 black push pins.

You can the remove the panel below the steering wheel. It just pops off.

Now connect to the control panel and pass the power cords into the radio area.

Pop off the frame around the radio. I connected the power to the power outlet in the ashtray.

Then just put everything back together and you are good to go.

Excellent install guide. When I get my BEL 975R, I'll probably try to rig a bracket for the control panel so that it can be "bumped" and slid out of sight. I envision a bracket that slides back and up to hid the panel. (or a stiff "rocker" bracket that swings back and up at the same time.

I haven't been able to find a decent price on BEL 975R. The two places that had it for $300 were sold out and not going to get any more.

Is there another radar detector like this one? (can be installed in front/back of car and almost completely hidden)

There's a reason why there aren't many concealed detectors.

    http://valentine1.com/lab/Previously1.asp tells you why.

I liked the beltronics because it didn't look like a detector. If there is a similiar system that is discrete and doesn't look like a detector I'd be interested in it.

The unit you mentioned is interesting, but I'm not sure how to integrate it with the magnum for good coverage *and* almost completely hidden.
