    $30 30min Trailer light harness

After installing a trailer hitch there is no need to spend the $100+ for the Mopar or similar harnesses.

Using a basic 4 wire tail light converter you can hook up your harness in a matter of minutes. I used a Hopkins #46155 Basic Taillight converter, I got at the parts store for $26. Any 5 to 4 wire taillight converter should work.

No need to remove tail lights. You can tap all the needed wire rite at the fuse box in the trunk. There is a group of about a half dozen wires coming out the right side of the fuse box. They are the tail light wires.

Remove the fuse box so you can get the bottom off. Once you have opened the box use the supplied wire taps to connect the corresponding wires.

    I probed mine and found:
Right Turn - White with Yellow stripe
Left Turn - White with Dark Green stripe
    Tail lights/Parking lights - Purple
    Brake - Red
Ground - I used the existing ground location for the battery.

You may want to probe yours to make sure they are the same.

Once you have all the wires hooked up neatly tuck them back in the fuse box and snap the bottom back on and reattach it to the car. I wrapped the converter in some foam and tucked it next to the battery.

When I'm not using the harness I leave it inside the car.

When I need it I just hang it out the tail gate.

Does that converter have an independent power source? If not, you may be in line with frying your FCM (see this post: Installing a trailer hitch / receiver).

Just an FYI, for double the money (~$60) you can get a plug-n-play system that isolates the trailer's tails (I got mine off Ebay, from this guy: http://myworld.ebay.com/hitch-heaven).

that seams like a better solution. The set up I have shown uses power from the tail light wiring. At the time I was looking for a wiring kit the only options were 3X that price. I have used my trailer light harness all summer pulling a small camper and not had a problem. But I could see how a trailer with a lot of lights, or one that uses vehicle power for other accessories could cause problems.

Hmmm, good info, I need one of those connectors in my magnum as I have a truck tail gate light package that runs all the way across the back of the car for brakes & turn signal lights I want to hook up. The lights come with the female connector to plug into this.

    FYI...

Hopkins makes a generic separately powered wiring harness that runs about $50; I used these instructions to install that item in my Magnum and it works well with the total time being about 30 minutes and total cost of $50.

My wiring matched the second one listed in this thread.
