    Mounting saddlebags

    written by: moparman53

This is not as difficult as I first thought. It's just that you need to drill 4 holes and that made me more cautious than normal. Not that I'm ever reckless or anything. (Yeah, right!) I enlisted the aid of my neighbor who installs leafless guters for a living and is accustomed to measuring and drilling with precision.

The first photo shows the left (drivers side) before any drilling. THe second shows the first hole drilled and the plastic grommet installed with the second hole marked. Make sure you don't get the left and right side bags mixed up. They are mirror images of each other. They should have the netting on the outside and the rear of the bag is straight up and down while the front is angled. The third photo doesn't really show that. Another way to tell which is front is to examine the grommets. The front one faces out and the rear one in.

Anyway, first lhld it in place where you want it. I couldn't tell a whole hell of a lot from the substandard directions, so I just lined up the back flush with the back of the wheelwell. The instructions say to draw a vertical line along the front of the bag and measure half an inch back from that. I felt that would be too far back, so I drilled right on the line. Sight along the centerline of the strap and draw yor horizontal line. I used a pencil. Comes right off with 409. Go ahead and pop in the first grommet and reposition the bag where you want it. Stretch the rear strap a bit and draw your line. Drill the hole and pop in that grommet. Your halfway done now. Do the same on the passenger side and that's it. You now have a pair of removable saddlebags (there's straps in a pouch on the back of the bags) that I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to use for.

I just mounted my saddle bags. Thanks for the tips! These hold an amazing amount for their size. I've got a flashlight, screwdriver, measuring tape, and dog leash in one with a whole lot of room left. In the other I have a first aid kit and road flares (thats about all it will hold).

PS: I think the pocket on the back is just for holding the shoulder straps that come with it. These would be used if you wanted to carry around the bag for some reason...

Gee, I'm slow sometimes. I'm the one who submitted this, but I didn't get credit for it. I got the saddlebags (genuine Mopar part) from the MoparSuperCenter.com. They gave a discount for forum members.
