Installing a cabin fresh air assembly

This is for most of us that didn't get to add this when we bought our cars new. Here is the complete assembly i got through Mopar Super Center:

I only used the part that actually holds the filter:

    Here is the part #:

Tools used for the install: 1/4" & 3/8" ratchets w/short extension,10mm,13mm,15mm sockets, assorted standard screwdrivers, blue painters tape & utility knife(optional)

    So lets get started.
First remove the 2 pins that cover the ECM located on passenger side of engine compartment.

Next remove foam piece just under hood strut:

Next remove the push pins that hold down the long plastic cowl:

    Continued....

Also remove smaller push pins holding the rubber ends on cowl:

Then with a utility knife or small screwdriver pop off the cover to the nut that holds the wiper arm. Use a 15mm socket to remove the nut:

Now before you remove the wiper arm use some of that blue painters tape for reference marks when you re-install the wiper arm (Do this on both sides):

Now you can pull on cowl and set aside. It's only held in by a few clips that snap in:

Now with a ratchet and 13mm socket to loosen both bolts that hold the ECM & support bar:

Once the bolts are removed remove the ECM out of the way so you have more room to work with when pulling out the old piece and installing the new:

With that out of the way. Use a 1/4"ratchet w/10mm socket and remove the 2 nuts holding the cabin air assembly:

Now its gonna take a little effort to remove the old piece:

Now its time to install the cabin air filter holder - Make sure the lower tab slides in for a good seal.

    We are almost finish!
Now make sure the new assembly slides flush against the firewall then adjust the assembly so it goes over the threaded bolts:

Re-attatch everything in the reverse order and your done:

Thanks to Mopar Super Center for a speedy delivery on the assembly!

Thanks for the info. Gonna install one soon. Last time I was at the dealership they told me it was time to replace my filter, but cause of what they were gonna charge me I figured I'd do it myself. When I finally got around to checking on it I discovered that I don't have a filter unit. Can you believe it. The dealership was gonna charge me to replace the filter, when I dont even have one.

Steallership!!!LOL....The guy next to me at a car show in a Challenger SRT said how do I get to my cabin air filter so I showed him but when I lifted the cover, just under the passenger wiper blade...I found nothing...so I guess that was another delete to keep the SRT going...like from 06 to 07 the shock tower covers where deleted and at another car show FAST56K gave me another piece that was deleted near the cabin air filter but under the hood!! THX Carl!!

Cabin air filter was part of option ABD Protection Group on my Magnum. It includes side supplemental air bags, side window curtain front and rear and self sealing tires.
But I'll take a cabin air filter! Discounted dealer price for my last one was $39.00

Pair of shock tower covers were $9.95. (I " installed " them) LOL

Pictures help a great deal in knowing what you are getting into along with the tools needed. But what should be emphasized with fireworks and a marching band would be how difficult it is to install the "filter holder" into the correct position.

Women think giving birth is difficult, they should try installing this piece. Holy Crap! I've got more battle scars from this than a mountain lion could do.

Other than that, piece of cake <<<< understatement of the year!

Thanks for the awesome write-up ... I've been planning on doing this for quite some time ...

I'm hoping to do it at the same time as doing a strut tower brace, most likely the one from Razor's Edge ....

Just picked up my kit from the dealership today. Hoping to do this install tonight after picking my wife up from work.
In the pictures above part number 04806294AB is shown for the filter box. Local dealerships wanted $75+ for the box alone and wanted 3-6 weeks (one said 3 months) to get this part in stock.
After some searching I found part number 82209548 for which the dealerships charge ~$68 and it includes the filter (as well as some replacement plastic rivets). So, $7 cheaper and the first filter is free. Hope this information helps somebody. I'll report back with how many stitches I require from this install once I finish :D

    *EDIT*
Just finished the install, total time was approx 25 minutes (I know my way around cars reasonably well but I had a fight with some plastic rivets).
Some tips I can offer up:
    1) Follow the directions included with the kit, remove the cross-bar and change the whole housing together. It is so simple this way.
    2) Remove the 10mm nuts that hold the air intake housing to the car before trying to remove the crossbar, this will allow you enough room so you don't have to bend the plastic tab on the new/old housing during installation/removal.
    3) When re-installing the ECM make sure you don't pinch any wires underneath it (between it and the body) or else it won't sit flat and could damage something.
    4) When removing the rubber/foam pads on the corners of the cowl be _VERY_ careful, the plastic rivets pull right out of it if you aren't

    Total number of stitches? 0
1 cut on my arm because I thought the third nut at the bottom was holding the housing to the car and stuck my arm down inside to investigate then slipped in the mud while my arm was down there.
