Door handle pull - cover mod

I got this idea from Jaak's website showing the 300c handle pull mod to his car.

After seeing the work and cost of handles, I decided on a simple/cheap way. (Used on a Mag RT, but I'm guessing it would work on most LXs with similar plastic handles.)

Rev. 2 - I changed from the black vinyl and velcro since the TX heat melted the adhesive.

This is an even easier design. I found this gold/brown colored rubbery material used as shelf liners at Walmart. Cutting it into 5.25" x 10" strips and wrapping it around the handle worked like a charm and it looks good (to me) as well. Plus it's cushiony so it feels good. It pretty much sticks to itself, but I plan to use a small line of contact cement near the end to hold it together. Of course this applies to colors that are of a tan/cream hue. Black interior wouldn't look as nice with it. I didn't see other color choices for this material. The picture below is with no glue. It just sticks to itself.

I pieced this project together. The only off the shelf material I got was the Liner material that comes in a roll at Walmart. I already had the two rolls of velcro from years ago. I think I snagged it at Home Depot or Lowes. The backing was really sticky, versus that cheap crap you get with say with a radar detector. Plus, I already had 2" masking tape. The vinyl (this is a laugh), at Xmas time, my wife and I were at Walmart, and she was looking at pocket books. As I was standing around, I saw the clearance rack for them and a light bulb went on for the Mag mod. There was a big black one on the rack for $9 and had enough area to get the four sections I needed. So I bought it, and got it home and immediately cut it up with a box cutter to get the four 6 inch squares. If it's a hot climate and you park outside allot, I suggest putting a few stiches through the velcro and vinyl to keep the adhesive from failing.

I found some of the stuff pretty cheap online:

Vinyl (this is black, but there are other colors available at this site):

    Velcro 3/4":

It took me a couple of hours to figure it out and piece it together from scratch (once I had all the pieces), but since you've got the dimensions, it should take around an hour.

Don't beat around the bush...tell us how you really feel.

Actually they look pretty good, and are a lot less work to install than taking off the door panels. The downside is, after 3 months hitting the TX sun, the stick on velcro had allot of trouble (as I thought would happen). So putting some stitches in would have worked better. As far as being a nuisance, not at all (if the sticky stuff held up). So a few stitches are a better idea into the velcro/vinyl material).

But, I decided on an even easier design. I found this gold/brown colored rubbery material used as shelf liners at Walmart. I agree with CM. It looks cheap and out of place. If it was covering the entire handle, it might look a little better IMO.

Many have said they like the idea. Can't please everyone.

If you think about it, it does cover the entire handle, as much as it can. As much as the one on the pre-fabbed 300 does. Why, because you can see in the picture the last 3/16" on each end of the handle has an angle. It's not a square end. So the best you're going to do with a wrap is what I've shown.

You know what REALLY looks cheap? The plain, vanilla plastic that Dodge installs. Now that looks cheap and boring. And it feels uncomfortable.
