A week ago I moved the factory plate holder downward, but after looking at it for a while I didn't like the angle it had. So, here is a condensed "how to move your plate" down procedure. The new holder I used sits is a little lower and super easy to attach to the front. It sits at a decent level (not tilted down so much), and cost $10.00 for the holder and cover. Now I'm happy. Although certainly nothing special, I'll run it past DMAG for consideration for the knowledge base....
Procedure:
Remove factory front plate holder. Scrap.
Find at the hardware store some "bumper retaining clips". Drill out the holes as needed to fit.
Sand smooth to remove any numbers or marks on the top.
Push in and paint with your bottle of touch-up paint.
Get yourself a backing plate and cover (optional). $10.00 total at the auto parts store. These are both Bell brand, and the cover fits nicely over the backing plate if you clip few nibs from around the outside (used to hold the plate if mounting with the cover alone). Also purchase some stainless steel screws to mount the cover. They are also from Bell. Using the same brand parts ensured that everything fit together and looked good.
Get two large, strong zip-ties and loop around the horizontal crossbar in the fascia using the holes provided. I also ran two smaller ties around the veritcal bars in the fascia to lock the plate side-to-side. So four ties total. Note that if you position this just right you will not totally block the air entering the center of the fascia.
Install plate, cover, and screws. I had to use bolt cutters to shorten the screws about 1/4" so they did not protrude through the back of the cover.
Done!
