Magnetic Gas Cap Mod How-To

READ FIRST BEFORE STARTING

Remove gas cap FROM strap.

Carefully pry the outer black cap FROM the inner white portion (if look closely, you will see that it has 6 tabs, just pry at each tab and snap over the white disc).

The cap is actually 4 pieces the outer black cap, a spring, white disc, white threaded part. Once you have removed the black outer cap keep it and set the other parts aside.

On the inside of the black cap there is a small area of the handle that you will place the magnets into, one (snickle: I used two per side, see drawing) on each side of the inside of the handle (grip).

I purchased the magnets at http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...number=329-045

They are pretty strong for their size.

Hot glue one magnet to each end of the inside of the cap handle (snickle: If you use 4 magnets, super glue 1&2 and let dry. Then super glue 3&4 and let dry. Then cover them all with hot glue). Make sure you have your magnet poles are correct (snickle: This did not make a difference for me).

Now reassemble the cap in the reverse ORDER that you took it apart.

I think it only took about 15 minutes to complete.

Oh wow! I am so motivated I'm stopping by Home Depot to buy magnets and hot glue on the way home! such a simple mod, but a great way to stop me from holding the darn thing every time I pump gas so I don't scratch the paint.

That is way cool. I try to use the little tab thing in the door to hang the cap on while refueling, but it's so small the cap often comes right off. I like the magnet idea to keep that thing out of the way and safe off the paint.

I did this last night. At home depot they had this 10 pack of magnets they said were "medium strength" for $4.99

They did the trick well

The hot glue gun and 10 sticks was $8.99

Whole job took me about 1/2 hour.

remember when they sold those magnets that stuck onto your fuel line for some crack butt reason and claimed more horse. I think we should rate this mod convient + adds "up to" 50 horse
