Very helpful post! I found the diode/resistor placement a little unclear so I took this photo in hopes it makes it easier for others to follow -
The black wire is ground.
Black goes to black.
Wire tap-in in the photo below shows -
Top - Running light
Middle - Brake light
Bottom - Ground
