How to fill in your bumper insert pockets

Tools you will need:

SEM Problem plastic repair 3 Tubes
Ruber Gloves
24 Roloc Pad
Air Grinder
80 grit sand paper
DA
1 1/2" Masking tape
Respirator (optional)
SEM no swell glaze (do not use Bondo instead of this product)
Bondo spreader

Project time frame about 2-3 hours.

Warning the SEM problem plastic repair will get extremely hot to the touch after it activates and you should use gloves. Even with the gloves it is pretty hot to the touch for a few minutes until after it dries in about 4 minutes.

First tape off the area to be sanded with the 24 roloc pad and grinder. This 24 grit roloc pad will cut real quick. Using the 1 1/2" tape up the body lines and give yourself about two inches above and below the pockets to be filled.
Once tapped not grind the areas to be filled with SEM problem plastic repair adhesive. Make sure all paint is ground down. You will want to see the black color of the bumper when it is properly sanded.

Once prepped (sanded and taped up) spread the SEM problem plastic repair adhesive into the gap to be filled. Use a bondo spreader, this stuff will run so keep spreading it with the spreader. You will have to repeat this step several times so try and get even coats.

Your first coat will look like this, you will notice a trough in the middle of the pocket do not worry after repeating these steps it will fill in.

The working time or kick is pretty short before it hardens, you have about 4 minutes to work it depending on the temp you are working in. The hotter the faster it sets up. So work quickly and get consistant coats.

Sand the first coat down flat but do not remove what you just filled the gap with. Use the 24 roloc grit and a grinder or a DA with 80 grit if you are not used to using a roloc. 80 grit will knock down the texture it will just take longer.

Getting closer to filling the gap still needs more coats

Sand down the SEM problem plastic repair adhesive each time you add a coat.

Add enough coats to fill in the gap completly smooth. If you have a small divet it is ok but should look like this before moving on to the next step..

Once you have achieved the look as above it is now time to spread on the SEM no swell glaze. Remember not to use bondo, this product is designed to move and flex so that your bumper inserts that have been filled will not crack.

Use the no swell and spread it with a bondo spreader apply even coats, sand inbetween coats. Should take about two or three coats. Sand this with 80 grit and a DA.

Now sand out out scratches with 320 or higher. I recommend using 600 wet sand paper.
