I couldn't resist documenting my hood-strut install. It's so easy!
The hood strut kit runs about $60 from your favorite Mopar dealer. The kit should contain the following Mopar parts:
1- 5065278AD Cylinder
1- 5065279AD Cylinder
2- 6507889AA Ball Stud
The only tool required is a 13MM wrench or deep socket.
Difficulty on a scale from 1 - 10 is a 1.
This mod should take about 5 minutes.

Any chance someone could post which one is supposed to go left and which one goes right? Maybe it doesn't make a difference. Someone told me that it does matter though. So anyways, mine came without the red or blue stickers on them so I just guessed at which one went where. So far so good! Maybe I guessed right.

If you are replacing the OEM units there is only one way they will fit if they came with the arrows taped to them. If you look at them the cylinder is the upper part.
6.4 Apache Heads, 6.1 SB, SRT-MAxx Cam, 6.1 Intake, 87mm TB Ported by MM, TTi Long Tubes and Mid pipes, Dyno-Max Ultra-Flow 3" Exhaust, LMI 4" CAI, Predator, BC Racing Suspension, Magnum front w/69 Cuda Grill inserts, Trufiber SRT8 hood, SLP 25% Under Drive Pulley, Zeitronix Wideband, Hotchkis Sway Bars, SPC Front/Rear Camber Kits, 3.06 GETRAG, Builder Bill Billet Stator 3200 TC, Flex-Plate & Valve Body, MTCM, Brembo brake set and Dyno Tuned by AJ Hemituner.
Yes I'm aware they will fit only one way. However, they are 2 different part numbers. So which number is supposed to be left and which is supposed to be right? If it doesn't matter, then why are the 2 part numbers different?

Not sure what Part numbers you have, but I just went out to the car and checked for you. I have an 05 300C and it uses the following P/N: 4589606-AA has Blue lettering on it and goes on the passenger side.
P/N: 4589607-AA has green lettering on it and it goes on the drive side. The arrow points towards the body. Sorry the confusion, but do the Chargers come with them (hood struts) from the factory. I just replaced both of mine two weeks ago so the above numbers are good. Hope it clears it up for you.
Jeff
Thanks for the reply. The Chargers do not come from the factory with them installed. Not sure why. Seems Chrysler cut a few corners on a 35,000 dollar car. They COULD have included them. Instead they gave us a flimsy but functional Honda type hood prop rod thing. When you are showing off your HEMI engine, the last thing anyone would expect to see in your vehicle is a hood strut. But anyways, thanks for checking, it does help.

The only difference between the two is the orientation between the piston and the other side (Like +90 degrees vs -90 degrees). It is preferable to install the right one in the right place, but I installed mine backwards (with a twist), and they turned out fine.
Chrysler flipped back and forth with hood stuts. A lot depends on when your car was built. My 2005 was built in August 2004 and came with struts. Later models came with prop rods, then struts were back in for a while, then no one got them!! Many who have converted to struts have drilled out the rod mount and done away with it. Never had one, so I don't have a back-up in case the struts give out. (Which they did on my 2000 Intrepid) After market parts from Canadian Tire were $19.95 each. So did the rears on my Intrepid too!

I need to replace the hood struts on my 2006 Charger SRT8. I just got a set of OEM struts from the local Dodge dealer. Do the old struts from my Charger just snap off, and then the new ones snap back on in place of the old ones? Is it that easy?
I actually replaced my SRT8's hood struts last night, and it was not too hard. After finding something to hold up the hood, I popped off the old ones, and the new ones snapped right on in place of the old ones. The passenger side strut was a bit harder to get off for some reason. Both of the struts that I got (from the dealer) had green lettering on them, but were oriented differently, so it was easy to tell which one went on which side. Plus the old struts served as a guide to make sure I put the new ones on correctly.
Does like a AutoZone sells these?
They should be able to do a part number interchange. I just got a set of struts and studs today from my dealership that werent the correct part numbers for the kit, but ended up working well anyway ha. Struts were pn:4589606AA and 4589607AA 32.70 List ea. and the studs were pn:6507889AA (2 in pack) 6.50 List. They had them in stock. If I am not mistaken they are the same as the trunk lifts? I'll have to look and see for both.
Autozone Part Number (Mighty Lift brand): E95324 (same part for left or right) 17.99 each
