Fuel door mod for holding the gas cap *

    Written by Old Navy

For those who are wondering what to do to prevent gas cap from banging or laying against the car body when fueling. What I did was pop out the attaching plastic retaining wire (teather) at the body and re-attach it to the lower left hole inside the fuel door.

There are two of the holes inside the fuel door, one toward the outside edge of the door when it's open and one close to the hinge. I used the outside lower hole and this morning when I fillled up the car the cap never touched the body.

Did you know that the stock fuel cap can be hung on the door, because the tether has a gap between the attachment point and its body, it will slip onto the edge of fuel door !

Another idea from PT Cruiser land is to use a suction cup with a hook on the inside of the door. Works well and can be removed for cleaning.

you can also use the hook built into the gas door to hang the gas cap from its tether.

You have an 06 don't you Wagon?

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

Gonna have to check mine tomorrow to see if that hook is there. If not I like the suction cup hook. Sweet idea. Thanks.

I tried that, but it got really tiring bending down, especially if the tank was near empty. Then there was the hassle of constantly having to brush my teeth when I got home from the gas station, and OMG the gas fumes were enough to cause brain dam_ ... Wait a minute - I think you've given us a clue here... :-D
