I had been wanting to demold my '06 300c SRT8 for two years. When I saw the 300 Hollywood show car at NAIAS I knew that I wanted to do my front doors the same.
I purchased the CHRYSLER letters from the stealership. They are from the '08 Aspen doors. I was charged about $35 a peice.
Here are the tools I used. I did not use the hair dryer as it was pretty warm out and the glue was pretty soft.
Goo Gone by any other name is still Goo Gone.
Start at one end with heavy fishing line. Gently pull out on the end of the trim as you pull the line. Look at the line as it cuts through the glue tape. If it is leaving the pad on the door stop and start over on the other end of the trim. I did this and the vast majority of the glue came off with the molding.
Pull off as much of the remaining glue with your fingers as you can. The rest should come off with goo gone. It rolls up into balls and wipes off.
My car is a daily driver and is parked outside in MI. No amount of cleaning or even clay bar would touch the marks left by the molding. Maguire's Scratch X took it right off.
I removed the front door molding first so that I could use the remaining trim as a guide. Green painters tape.
I applied the new letters, spacing them about the same distance from the leading edge of the door as the letters themselves were spaced.
Finished product on a filthy car. It looks even better in person and when clean. The whole project took less than two hours.
Note that I also changed the window trim to the black magnum trim and removed the upper trim. The service manual was indispensible in doing that one correctly.
