Ok, a little history. I used clear suction cups to fix my trunk lid rubbing issues last year before the TSB came out. Search chargerforums and you'll find it if your interested.
After my first ticket for no front plate I started thinking of ways to attach a front plate without drilling holes. Something easy on, and off etc. Everything from fabrication to high powered magnets to my thought. . . suction cups! Worked on the trunk, why not on the plate bracket?
So this afternoon, the princess and I set out to do some license plate bracket moddin!
All you need is the plate bracket, a couple packs of Adams Large Suction Cups, a bowl of hot water, SMALL needle-nose pliers and some patience.
1) Heat the water in the microwave - Just shy boiling and place 4 suction cups in there to soften them up.
2) Bore out holes a little with a drill or I just crammed the pliers in and twisted.
3) Then take the pliers and fold the the end of the suction cup in order to force it into the hole.
4) Force it into the hole, narrow leading edge first. (this is the patience part. . .and the next few steps)
5) SLOWLY, work the nub part into the hole (make up your own jokes!) Be careful not to push too hard or it will cut the plastic.
6) Check to make sure it came all the way through. Spin the suction cup to make sure. The front should then look like this.
7) When your 3/4's the way there, have your assistant go get you a beer. . . you'll need one!
8) When all 4 are done. . .GO STICK IT!!!
THAT'S IT. Took all of a half hour. Well the beer was included in that time of course, so really 15-20 minutes.
Now, do I intend to keep this plate on all the time, absolutely not. Will I keep it on while going on the highway, most likely not. Will it stay in the trunk in case I get pulled over without it? You betcha! "I must have forgotten it was not on there after washing it. . .my bad. . . let me get it on right now for you officer!" . . . .it just might work!
I'll be sure to keep you all posted on any progress or issues.
