    Blinker Modification!

    The Blinker Mod

This mod will convert your blinking parking lights so that both the standard round praking light in each headlight, as well as the side-markers on the car will blink when the blinkers are engaged! By default, our side-markers stay lit constantly, and do not blink at all. This is very bad for side-visability when changing lanes and making turns as vehicles cannot see your bliners from the side. This will increase your visability on the streeet, and make your drive much safer! Keep in mind as well that this mod WILL work accross the ENTIRE LX PLATFORM, but I have to work out the 300's before I've got them locked in.

    How it works:

So instead of going directly to ground, they go to ground when the front bulb is off. When powered on, the side marker has 12 volts on both sides and doesn't light.

Only thing to watch for with this, is if you see what looks like a side marker is burnt out, check your forward facing signal bulbs. If it burns out, the side marker loses it's path and it won't light either.
Here is a vid of the end result!

Many thanks goes to Josh (Crazy_Luck) over on ChargerForums who stumbled upon the Blinker Mod via word of mouth, and additionally here on LX forums in a post written by Robins_SXT. I have recorded some instructional video, and taken some pics of the connector locations, as well as recorded a video of the end result.

For starters...don't do what I did and turn your ignition to ON so you can test your blinkers with your parking lights on, and then leave them on while performing this mod. It's a quick way to blow a 15 Amp fuse. :o:redface:

    - Yes, even a genius like myself makes mistakes sometimes.

    On to the mod!!!!

    Tools Needed:

    1 - Very small jeweler's screwdriver.

    1 - Pair of hands

    1 - Monkey Brain

Ok folks, there are two connectors here that you're going to need to locate. Each one is behind the headlamp assemblies, and are clipped on to the a piece of plastic in that area. You'll need to remove the stock air box /filter in order to easily access the Driver's Side Connector!

I've taken a couple pics of the location of each connector, as seen below:

    Driver's Side:

    Passenger Side:

Now that you have identified both connectors, now it's time to remove them. At this point you should ensure your keys are not in the ignition, and that your lights are completely turned off to remove the risk of shorting a wire. Now we will remove the connectors from the clips.

Please note: that the red locking tab on the passenger-side connector is found on the UNDER-side of the connector, unlike the driver-side which can be easily seen on top! Not sure why DCX decided to mount one inverted, but whatever, they built it, we just mod it. :D

The following 3 pics show removing the connectors from the clips:

Now from here, you should note that there are three (3) wires per connector. Don't worry about the color-coding on the wires, it is not important for this mod. All you need to do is ensure that you are swapping the physical location of each of the outside 2 wires with each other.

In other words, If you label the wires 1, 2, and 3....you are going to pull out wire 1, and place it where wire 3 is, once it has also been removed, and place wire 3 where wire 1 was.

Once you have removed the clips, follow the steps and instructions I have set forth in this video. This is a very simple process and should take you well under 5 minutes per side. This video demonstrates the technique performed on the passenger side of the car.

A couple final notes I forgot to include int he original post! (Thank you guys for reminding me)

This mod SHOULD work on all LX cars, but I have not completed this for 300C and above models, as thier headlamp assemblies are very different than the Maggies and Chargers. I am unaware of a reason why the Magnums and Chargers would ship from the factory without having the blinkers setup this way, it's actually quite unsafe IMHO.

Some have noticed the different blinking paterns after they have completed the mod. Your blinkers will now work in two conditional ways. Firstly, with your headlights and/or parking lights OFF, then both the inner-marker and side-marker will blink simultaneously, and will not alternate as you saw in the video. On the other hand, if your headlights and/or parking lights are set to ON, then at that point you will see the alternating blinker pattern where the inner-marker and side-marker blink opposite of each other.

Final note: One of our members over at ChargerForums noted that he tried this mod, and uses LED bulbs, instead of the incandescent bulbs that come with the car, and didn't recieve the desired results due to the 150K resistor he's wired in. If you are using LED lamps, please only perform this if you know how to resolve any issues with dimming that might arise, or other anomolies that have yet to be identified.

I will continue to update you guys as I gather more information and facts.

Good luck guys!!! Enjoy the mod!

Thank you again to Josh, and Robins_SXT!

I have a 300 and my markers don't flash, and I don't have said connectors.....

Are you sure? I've done this mod on Chargers and Magnums and they had the exact same wiring. The 300 is not supposed to need this mod. The side markers are already supposed to blink.

Hmm...I've gone on information that was given to me from another member who perhaps informed me wrong.

I posted the connector from the Service Manual to another member witha 300 that PM'd me.

Perhaps I need to find a 300 owner and question him/her to get a secure answer.

What year is your 300? Maybe they started non-blinking side markers with all LX models?

I'm wondering if the connector is in the same basic location, just with a different looking connector. It appeared to be different in the service manual when I viewed it.

I'll definately search out a 300 owner and see if they'll let me look around on thier car and give you a definite post on what to do on this.

The strange thing, is that in the 06SM, the 300 connector is listed with a pinout showing the swapped configuration! This would induce blinking by default from the factory!

What year are you looking at? Might be a change at the factory.

Just to further clarify this, that's how it works when the running lights are on. When they're off, they flash with the signals because the side markers have a ground condition on one side (instead of 12 volts from lights being turned on), so the 12 volts from the signal will illuminate it. In this state, the side markers will light with the signal.

If you notice the side marker burned out, make sure you check it with the lights turned off and a signal going. If it's still out, it's the side marker, if not, it's the signal light. (Plus you'll see if the signal light is burned out at that point.)

Great little mod! Looks factory, no cutting of wires...
