Skweekz, That was what was going on with my car and it was the regular pinky thing that was busted not the one to the right of the shifter (BTSI). My shifter would also go right but would not go down. Its easy to replace or repair.

So I should just go straight at fixing the interlock toward the front as described in this thread correct??

To my knowledge this kid had his battery disconnected for a bit, which is now making me think the issue might be directly related to an electronic safety issue. Or could it be that the mechanic in me is over thinking the situation??

Let me get to this car and start weeding out problems, I'll post more when I have more information..in the meantime any more help is appreciated..

thanx for helping the noob guys!

X2. Mine has the center console with the spring loaded cover for the cup holder and it seems like it is designed a little longer in the body of the console than the ones with open cup holders with no lid to hide them. Once I removed the 2 screws behind the ashtray and the 3 screws inside the console under the rubber cover the whole console can slide toward the rear of the car. You only need an inch or two. Shifter lifted right out to put the Billet piece in. Took me about a half hour to figure out the console need to slide back a little.

Changed mine out today and couldn't get the damn shifter assembly to come out. I finally figured out that I needed to move the center console backwards a little and then it all went smoothly. I should of read all 7 pages before I started.LOL. The piece that I removed looked fine, but now I have the peace of mind that I wont be stranded somewhere.

Ok, my pink thing broke last night. I did the cotter pin repair to the pink one while I wait for my billet tech. NOW, when I shut the vehicle off, my key stops in between LOCK and ON, and will not pull out of the ignition! Is the spring too tight now? That's all I can think...

Yup. Snapped it back on the metal post just fine. Shifting is smooth as silk, but the key sticks between LOCK & ACC.

Update: I got to the bottom of it. The spring was too tight. I loosened up the cotter pin, and we're good to go. It'll do until the BT unit arrives. Thanks all.

Something I did that i have not seen in this thread is when it happens, you can easily get moving again with just a screw driver. pop the chrome piece off like shown

then at the top of the shifter, put the screw driver in where you just removed the trim piece, move the whole screwdriver towards the driver, while holding the screw driver, shift from park. The cable which attaches to the pink thingy runs there and all you have to do is push it over to shift out of park until you get your replacement part.

Awesome write up! Worked like a charm. I did have an issue pulling the housing out, so i did remove the bolts for the center console, but did not pull it all the way out. Other than that, perfect!

Just had mine break this morning in the garage trying to leave for work. Gee Whiz, looks like a good excuse to miss a work day! I milked the repair and used the Dorman part #924-706 that I got at a local parts store for $30 (It's also metal). I also had to unscrew and slide my center console back to get the shifter out. This write-up was exactly what I needed to do the job without bunging something up.

This was an awesome write up, thank you! I'm petrified of dealing with mechanics and garages bc I know they sometimes take advantage of me being a woman. I'm working on that, learning a little bit at a time as things happen. This was one of those learning situations. My VIN, unfortunatley, was not on the list for this recall, but it was on another. Just my luck. But I refuse to pay for something that was faulty to begin with. I'll deal with Chrysler later on that, but I needed to figure out how to get this fixed.
My car is moving again, thanks to you. And I did it myself. Waiting on the part now, so let's hope it goes smoothly. Until then, I can get to and from work without having to use the company car anymore. Thank you so much.
