Stereo Bezel moulding to put in DDIN in non-Nav Bezel

    Tools and supplies:
    Dremel
    Epoxy
    Spot putty or body filler
    Sander

    Difficulty:Moderate
I never tried anything like this and it came out good.

    Stock Non-NAV Bezel

Lining up the HU Bezel to mark for cuts

    HU Bezel Epoxied in

First sanding with controls in to check for clearance
"ears" from mounting kit epoxied in also

Used left over plastic to fill in the gaps

Result of sanding after plastic filler

First coat of spot putty also after sanding all the checkerboard pattern off

    First sanding of the putty

    Second coat of putty

Result of final sanding and painting with textured paint
You can use body color but more work is needed to
    feather in the filler

    Final result with HU installed

I did this over 3 days. It pays to take your time.
I have had this in the car for over the the last year
with numerous removal and it is holding up. I would
even do this to a NAV install kit to give a stock look.
With windows tinted, it looks like a stock NAV unit
and is less of a theft temptation.

thats exactly what i want to do... where did you get the little ears? do I just need to buy a dash kit and cut the ears off of it? where do I get a doubledin dash kit? the only one I can find is one for a single din with another pocket in it....

It looks really good and I really want to do this same thing. the little square piece is the surround of the indash dvd player?

Yes the "ears" are from a non-nav install kit.

At the time this was the only kit that was availible.(done over 2 years ago).

Well thats why we are here!! Why pay a shop $200+ to do something that we can show how to ourselves for under $20, just takes our time!

I should not that the holes that the 2 clips by the HU clip into that secure the bezel are not there. But the bezel has enough rigidity that the other clips keep it steady.

SRW2 besure to post some pics of the finished product.

Thats the way that the bezel comes with the HU. Because the face tips down you have to have room for the face to swing. The face is tapered outwards. Even if the HU is off of center by 1/16" it will rub. It is something that has to be lived with. The factory knows best.

Feel free to try it yourself and prove the factory wrong.

I found this tread in the KB and was thinking of doing the same thing only with a single din deck. I was wondering how your head unit is supported? could I hang it from the bezel or is something else needed?

I would get the single mounting kit. The ears just pop on the mounting kit. Epoxy the ears to the bezel, do the filling/sanding/painting and pop the bezel back on.
