    Installing Uconnect

    Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    1) Open the ash tray and grip the bottom of the bezel. Pull gently but firmly to release the bezel from dash.
    2) release the cables from the clock, ESP controls, seat heaters, AC controls, and utility plug. The plugs pull loose by squeezing the tab in and pulling outward.
    3) remove the four screws holding the radio to the dash and pull out the radio. The antenna has a keeper on it so pull out on it to get the antenna cable to release from the radio. Remove the other cables from the radio.
    4) In the kit for the Uconnect, remove the harness with the two white connectors on the end and a black extension. Following the directions in the kit, cut the yellow/black wire and tape the end with the manual splice on it.
    5) solder a 24" 16ga. wire to the end of the yellow/black wire and run it behind the white support for the radio, down to the utility plug harness. Stip about 1/2" of insulation off the wire located in the #3 position on the utility plug and solder the extension wire to this. Wrap the union with electrical tape.
    6) plug one end of the uconnect harness into the harness that originally went to the radio. This will splice in the Uconnect to the radio. Do not connect the radio at this time.
    7) Remove the side panel between the left of the dash and drivers side door. This hides one of the screws holding the knee panel under the steering wheel.
8 ) Remove the screws under the side door panel, under the knee panel and pull the knee panel away from the dash. This panel has four keepers holding it to the car.
    9) Remove the four bolts holding the steel panel to the car. The controller will be located on the inside of this panel.
    10) If your car has an amplifier for the stereo, the speaker for the Uconnect can not be located per the directions. Instead, locate the speaker on the steel cross member running horizontally directly under the steering wheel. Pre drill the holes to mount the speaker and attach the speaker to the car.
    11) The kit comes with double sided tape. Place two of the strips on the controller unit and attach it to the inside of the steel plate.
    12) Run the black cable harness from the stereo adapter harness behind the dash to the controller unit and plug it in to the controller.
    13) Connect the speaker harness to the controller.
    14) Connect the external control panel to the side of the center dash. ( you may want to cut a small groove in the bezel for the cable to pass behind it.) Run the cable in the same path as the black cable harness coming off the stereo.
    15) Reinstall everything back into the center console dash using the reverse order above.
    16) connect the microphone cable to the controller unit and run the cable behind the dash and under the side door panel you removed earlier.
    17) the microphone cable can be routed up the A pillar cover without fully removing it from the car. Place your fingers between the windshield and the cover and pull gently but firmly. This will loosen it enough to route the cable.
18 ) Tuck the wire into the head liner along the windshield. There is sufficient room to do this without to much effort.
    19) Pull down on the overhead console and let it hang by the wiring harness. To the left of the hole is a small hole to pass the microphone through.
    20) Using the tape on the microphone, attach it to the overhead console and reinstall the console in the overhead. ( Make sure you tuck as much of the slack as you can back into the head liner.)
    21) Reinstall the A pillar cover and steel knee plate.
    22) Using the tie straps provided in the kit, secure the slack in any of the cables to the underside of the dash.
    23) Reinstall the knee panel.
    24) Reinstall the side door panel.
    25) Turn ingnition on and push the Uconnect button.

Yeah... cuz dodge is dumb enough to use two completely different bcm's in their factory-equipped and non-equipped cars. I called to find out how much it'd be to get the real system installed, with the controls on the mirror, concealed microphone, and integration with the factory stereo. Yeah, not even an option, because the body control module and full interior wiring harness are COMPLETELY different. $4k for the parts and all associated labor... and that's just a rough estimate. I am not a happy panda.

Works fine in mine, but I had to build a harness. Parts guys at my local dealership saw me buy the parts and were surprised I have it working. They think it's pretty cool.

This Uconnect installation is for the aftermarket Mopar kit. You buy the kit and it comes with all the parts, as well as the instructions.

The factory Uconnect is described elsewhere.

This KB should have been updated long ago for the factory UConnect. Do you want the factory UConnect? Here you go...

(This is a re-post from a post I made in another section.):
    ----
I know most of this has been discussed in one post or other in this forum/thread, and my apologies for possibly repeating it. I thought to post a comprehensive short summary for anyone wanting to install this in a RAM or any other vehicle.

The question that has been floating around whether this will work in one Dodge vehicle or other, since it seems some of the stuff and mounting locations are different, including the harnesses. For the LX and other non-Ram vehicles, sure the Telematic mount may be behind the glove box, but not the Ram. They are somewhere mid-dash near the radio.

Anyway, for the Rams and others out there that do not have the correct harness, the Jet harness (like I said already discussed) and all the parts can be bought at one spot.

Ted Harris at the Mopar Super Center is working on a universal harness for any vehicle, whether with rain sensors, mirror dimmers, clearance lights (Rams with clearance lights and no UConnect have a completely different harness), etc. Once he has it completed, it will work for ANY Dodge vehicle, recent or older, for the factory UConnect. And you can install the Telematic unit anywhere you want. Preferrably under the dash to the right of the column. This is because this is the actual Bluetooth transceiver and it would be closer to the driver's phone/handheld to eliminate any possibility of signal interference between the unit and the phone, but unlikely there would be anyway.

He can put together a package including the Telematic unit, Mirror, and mirror harness including his customized Jet harness. This will surely take the guess work out of the installation as well as trying to pinout the factory harness to the Jet harness interconnect. You'll just need a little brains and guts to tear apart your dash and know where to mount the stuff. It will be completely plug and play!!

From talking to Ted, he said you won't even need to put it on Starscan. The EVIC will recognize the Telematic unit right away and all UConnect features will just work, including onscreen GPS radio display of phone numbers, etc.

He may even put together a harness for you even if he doesn't have the universal one ready yet. Call him, he's cool to talk to and he seems to be the most informative person I've spoken to yet, about DC parts and if they're possible to mod. Tell him "Ace" referred you...

I must also give credit where it's due. Jaak is the one that came up with the Jet harness in the first place but passed it on to Ted to build it and mass produce it (as far as I understand that whole thing). Jaak's been helping folks in this forum with the factory UConnect thing for awhile now.

    Kudos to Jaak and Ted!

For adding the UConnect kit 82211877 or 82211005AB which has a separate microphone and uses the existing UConnect controls on your stereo:

The instructions in post#1 are good. Maybe some pictures would help. I found the Mopar manual in PDF form online so thought I'd share since I will be doing this upgrade on my wife's '08 Charger.

Here is the instructions in factory/picture form: HERE
You can download the original which included a bunch more vehicles by searching for "K6869436.pdf" on Google.
Did the radiator cap mod: SRT8 is here....

I have been reading your knowledge base for 3500 miles now. My uconnect is the mopar version and it echoes like a big dog. my folks can't hear on the other end. The dodge dealer said the mopar factory rep was there that day and said it always does that in lx cars. I have a newer nokia and a motorolla v3xxx. Will I actually get better results if I get the mirror and use my mopar uconnect module or is the echo in the module?

Guys. I have read this thread 3 times. Also, i have read the link that was given by quarky42, and saved it in my bookmarks. I just purchased my first LX. It's a 2009 Charger R/T with the REC sirius equiped non nav single disc cd player. I purchased a Part # ( *P05064401AJ* ) RER DVD NAV used from Ebay. I'm guessing at this point that I need to order a wiring harness kit 82211005AB for the nav unit to work properly? LMK if this is correct and if i'm missing anything. (Newbie)
Thanks Guys. Also I plan on giving Ted Harris a call in the next few days. Currently in brazil working. I'll be back in the states in about 6 weeks.

The 82211005AB is actually the over-the-counter UConnect kit so don't buy that as you already have the UConnect integral to the MyGig unit itself. The RER that you've bought is a 2008 vintage, low speed, so you've got the correct radio in hand.

As far as what you currently have in the car, it won't be an REC as that radio was discontinued before the 2009 model year, and the REC is(was) a Nav-equipped radio, and the Sirius was a separate module from the main radio itself. Being an '09 you likely have a MyGig REN in the car now.

As you already have a MyGig(the REN) in the car, the RER will be essentially a drop-in, the only thing that you'll really have to buy is the GPS antenna, and a UConnect wiring harness and a microphone-equipped mirror for the UConnect.

About 60 minutes and you'll be done.

    Thanks MLB12.
    Appreciate the heads up.
where might i find said wiring harness and microphone equipped mirror?
I've had the car for a week now, and haven't really had a chance to get all the particulars figured out. I'm currently in brazil working, the car is at my office long term parking in louisiana and my buddy showed me on the front of the radio by the aux input jack which model it was. I thought it was an REC..... Hell. I'm more than likely confused.. REC. REN. RER. AGHHHHH!!!! They all kind of run together...LOL. One of these days the light bulb will turn on over my head.. LOL.

I even emailed you saying it was an RES, lol. Should still pretty much be a drop in for your car as it was an option on it Just need the things you said already I believe! (GPS antenna, microphone or mic equipped mirror). I think the bluetooth and other uconnect features are built into the radio already Someone here can correct that if wrong I'm sure??
