How to install GSM Fan/ESP mod

I've seen a number of members looking for a write up about installing this kit so here it is.

    Mod:
Install GS Motorsports Fan and ESP over ride kit

    Time:
    1 hour

    Skill Level:
    Easy-Medium

    Tools Required:
    -Coat hanger
    -Wire strippers
    -Wire crimpers
    -Electrical tape
    -Philips Screwdriver
    -Pliers
    -Flashlight

VERY IMPORTANT - The kits are build date specific, so some of this may not apply to your install.

Here is what you get from GSM in the kit.

It comes with the switches already mounted on a plate (I painted mine black), the wiring, low temp t-stat(not sure how low), crimp connectors, wire ties and detailed instructions, however the pictures in the instructions are lacking.

Step1 Disconnect the positive battery cable

    Step2 Unpack the wiring harness.

Step3 Select the end of the wiring harness that has the 3 wires together. This end goes into the car.

Step4 Route the wires along the core support and hide them with the existing wire loom. Stealth is my middle name.

Step5 Remove the cowl cover to the master cylinder. Look down in there toward the firewall and find where the rubber seal is for all of the factory wiring.

Step6 Now inside the car, remove the push pins that hold in the carpet piece underneath the dash board.

Step7 From inside the car, find the rubber plug you located in Step5. It's way up there so now might be a good time for the flashlight

Step8 Straighten out the coat hanger and from inside push the coat hanger through the rubber seal. You might be able to actually get hanger to go through the existing hole. I was not so lucky, but no big deal

Step9 Creat a loop with the hanger and loop the wires together to pull them into the car

Step10 Hook up the switch. There are some specifics in the GSM instructions

Step11 Locate the rest of the wires over on the passengers side of the car. The single black wire is for the fan relay and the 2 green wires are for the ESP override.

Step12 Locate the fan relay on the core support (build year specific).

Step13 Splice in the black wire according to the GSM instructions. It was the green wire for my car.

Step14 Complete the fan wiring by wrapping the new wire in with the existing fan wiring bundle. Hide all the evidence.

Step15 Locate the ABS/ESP plug. This is where you need to splice in the ESP wiring.

Step16 There are 2 tabs that you need to squeeze to then lift and rotate up the cover.

Step17 Splice in the green wires into the purple with blue strip wires and bundle the new wires back into the existing bundle. Reinstall the ABS/ESP plug.

That's it. Some would disagree, but I think it's worth the money: having the switches already mounted, very nice wiring package, detailed instructions and someone I can call if there is an issue is worth it to me.

    Lessons Learned
After the install and hooking the battery back up, I turned the car on and the ESP/BAS and Traction Control lights were on. Checked the wiring and everything was fine. Then I started to think; the switch has to be 'ON' for the system to be in the 'normal' mode. Basically the switch interupts the circuit, so having it off causes the lights in the dash. I turned the car off, turned the swith on, and started the car up again and no lights. So I flipped the switch around so that it appears to be in the off position.
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.

The only problem when Installed mine was the thermostat that GSM sends is a non bypass thermostat. Our cars recommend the bypass thermostat.
It was some time ago, but I kept getting temp CELs because the car wouldn't warm up right. Since installation of this, I have removed the fan mod and thermostat that GSM sent and installed a 180 Motorad bypass type thermostat. I use my Predator to control the fans. Best part is, with the right thermostat, haven't had a CEL since. The ESP mod works great still.
