Way I figure is there is no sense in doing it half way and need to upgrade it in the future. Sure it will be limited by everything past it, but it will never be a choke point in the future. Build it big enough to provide the best numbers with any combo I throw at it. Spend a little more now and save more later. And there is very minimal cost difference between 3.5" pipe and 4" pipe.
Depending on how funds go after doing the visual mods, I might do the ShopHemi power trip package not this next winter but the winter after (only visual mods left before performance mods is hood, coilovers, rear fascia, and decal wrap)
I've already priced out the parts to build the entire intake (minus the air filters) for roughly $125 + $60 shipping. Just waiting for them to be in stock

okay, sorry i'm a few yrs. late to the game here, but i figure i'll offer my contribution to the F-4. this is my anti rattle bracket, it is just a scrap pc. of 14 gauage steel about 3/4" wide or so. the filter end is bent to 90* & iirc the other end was bent to around 25-30* i was originally gonna go with the vacuum hose route, but was looking things over & noticed if i positioned the clamp w/ the stud forward & up, that it wasn't too far from the factory air box mounting tab, so this is what i whipped up one day @ lunchtime. feel free to copy if interested.

when i was a child, i never had an imaginary friend, it's not that i didn't want one, it's just that none of them liked me well enough.
AHEM... Let me clear my throat...
I CAN BREATHE BETTER NOW!
I cut the pipe then sanded with 400 then stepped to 800. I may go further and polish it off with 1200, 2000, etc...
looks great!!!! im gonna get mine polished too
nice job!!
Thanks Matt for all of your hard work, I have been ready this thread for a year now, finally going to give it a try. Has anyone tried the 12" radius pipe? and secondly, I have a 07 Charger, there is a plastic piece on the right hand side of the radiator in the front. Could that also be removed for more air flow to the filter or will that cause an overheating issue(less air to the radiator).
don't do that :-). Somewhere in the Frankentake III build thread you'll see I tried that (you are referring to the 'upper' radiator baffle) and it increased water temps cuz so much air was no longer being forced thru the radiator. It also opened up a big hole right in front of the air filter - you could clearly see the F-III filter by standing in front of the car at the end of the driveway. THAT had the unexpected effect of letting an ENORMOUS amount of crud impact the filter directly. Dirt, dust, sand, wasps, dragonfiles and a very sad sparrow. Don't do dat.
I think he meant the F-IV and not a fender-pull, but the problem you illustrate is the very same. I am pretty sure it will not bend enough to be all it can be.
Looking at your fender-pull, I am not exactly thrilled to see that as I have a hunk of 4", 12"-radius tubing that is meant to eventually do the same duty you put yours to.

Thanks for the feed back. Parts are on there way. I ordered the reducer and pipe from Silicone Intakes and the Filters from Spectre. Cant wait to get it all set up.
I ended up stopping the tube a couple inches above the hole which gave me the results described. From there I used a straight silicon coupler to another tube with a 45deg bend. Then attached the filter.
If you continued down the opening with the 4", 12" radius tube, I think it would straighten out to where you would attach a 45deg elbow and then attach the filter. Only issue with the method is you could not remove the tube without removing the filter.

Thanks for the info Tagman. If I can just stop myself from tinkering - and we've all seen how successful I am at leaving my intake the hell alone - I will stick to the F-IV. For me in a road racing environment I'm happy with it. We'll see if I can restrain myself.
Well, the way you were going, I am surprised there isn't a Frankentake X thread by now!
All set. Installed it today. Thanks again Matt. Now I can add Frankentake to my mods list. Wasnt to thrilled with the finish on the pipe but I wasnt going to send it back.
