    Fan Mod Combination

    After installing a cooler thermostat in my 5.7, I wanted a way to control the fans so they would operate at lower than stock settings without throwing codes. Thanks to the $40 temp sensing mod and Jim Turners fan mod(both found here on LX forums), I was able to complete my own combination control. I realize some new products available now make this a plug and play proceedure, however cost is an issue. With some electrical knowledge and a little effort, this set-up will not only give you an understanding of how the LX fan system works, but also pride in completing this mod yourself. I've been using this for two or more months with great success. South Florida summer heat is brutal. Sitting at idle in the sun with the ac on, I maintain a temp around 177 degrees. All of the parts used were purchased at Auto-zone or Pep boys. #4128 thermostat(180), Hayden #3653 thermostat control, and BWD #R3177 relays. JT's system turns the fans on high manually. $40 fan mod turns the fans to low automatically. I used a Jaaked relay in the #3 position of JT's mod letting me turn on the fans to low manually in the winter.(when the ac is on, the fans come on low almost immediatly anyway) The adjustable thermostat switch controls the fans to high when the set temps are reached. Hopefully this write-up will encourage some of you to take on this project, and happy cooling!

    192 deg thermo

    If I were to use a 192 degree thermostat (I think stock is 203) instead of a 180 that you used, could I get away with not doing the fan mod?

    Wow, talk about creativity! JT, Jaak fan mods and temp control stirred in to one! Congrats!

    I think for most people, the CoolIt mod from NoESP is the easiest and if you're sensitive to cost, or just want manual control, don't forget there's a Coolit that is half price, that will give you the full function of any of the fan mods out there, with just a simple plug it in and a couple of wires to hook up.

    Hey, I like it so much, I use it! It's more convenient than using my own jaaked relays.

    I love that you created your own however and encourage anyone that wants to be creative and is comfortable with doing this, to try it. Just triple check how you connect things, as a wrong connection can blow a fan relay driver in your FCM and cause you buy a new one.

    Just a note, I had the NoEsp in my car and found after installing the Predator the fans stayed on high constant, took out the NoEsp and everything works fine, so make sure theres no conflict with any Fan Mod and Predator.

    I removed my Jaak Relays once I got the Predator....

    but for over a year I ran my Jaak relays the same way, with a 180 degree Thermostat control that simply grounded the jaak relay when it closed the circuit at 180 to 185 degrees..

    you mean the COOLIT by NoESP..,. the NoESP mod is a different device..

    Yes Mr. Incredible, That's what I did at first but that only runs the fans on low when the jaaked relay is triggered. This will work in cooler temps ...but south Fl sun requires fans on high to keep cool. I still use the jaaked relay in my Jim Turner mod and have a toggle inside the car to manually power the fans on low if I choose, the adjustable control cycles the fans on high when set temp is reached.

    I would really like to know how to use my Cool-It fan mod with just a switch for on and off. Being at the track especially at night and flashing yoiur lights on and off 4 times and the horn beeping all over the place in the staging lanes is a bit embarrasing

    I actually have it hooked to my fog lights so I just push the fog light button on and off 4 times but the headlights or pimp lights have to be on for the button to work but i would still just like a on and off switch

    You can always Jaak a relay and install it in the #3 position, grounding it with a switch will run the fans on low. This works fine in cooler temps and is an easy addition. Also, if your staging on a cool night you can turn on the air conditioner and within 30 seconds your fans will come on low speed, bringing your temp to the coolest your thermostat will allow...hey, never thought of that eh INFERAL!
