Replacing the Turn Signal Indicator Bulb *

Replacing the Turn Signal Indicator Bulb

    written by Ikarus

For both the KB article photos and the original install of the bulbs I did not disconnect the battery. I am sure that there is some risk involved in that, but I did not have any problems.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1) Open the hood and look for the orange bulb seating indicated in Img1. You should have one on each side roughly in alignment with the turn signal indicator bulb. Img1 shows the location of the bulb on the driver's side of the vehicle.

    2) Lightly grab the orange plastic bulb seating right where the wires connect shown in Img2.

    3) Turn the bulb seating toward the engine block and you will feel it lightly rubbing as it moves out of its locked in position.

    4) You can then withdraw the bulb seating and bulb from the headlight shown in Img3.

    5) Lightly pull up on the bulb and it will release from the bulb seating. If you are extra concerned you can use a soft cloth to grip the bulb. Be sure to note that the bulb has two metal contacts on the base of the bulb that should be aligned the same way when you connect the replacement bulb.

    6) Insert the new bulb into the housing and push with gentle force until you hear a click. Once the bulb has clicked into place it should not fall out again.

At this point you simply return the bulb to its installed position. I had difficulty with the reinstall only because you cannot easily feel when the bulb is in the right position. To avoid this problem I added some additional images to help in the reinstall of the bulb seating.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    7) With the bulb removed the headlight should look like Img4. You can see the grooves that allow the bulb to slide into the headlight and then lock into place.

    8) Place the bulb partially inside the headlight and then move to kneel to the front of the vehicle. From this angle you can see the bulb seating slide into the headlight and can confirm the alignment of the plastic seating. Img5

    9) Once the bulb seating is in the headlight just turn the bulb seating away from the engine block using the same gripping point as step 2.

Images 6 and 7 show the final bulb install and the illuminated bulb.

    Good luck!

How about the rear bulbs.....I took that cover off and all I see is what looks like a release for maybe the whole tail lamp assembly.

Sorry...no input on that from me. With the volume of colors in the existing plastic of the tail light I did not think that there would be any appearance benefit to changing the bulb.

It is a thumbnut for the entire taillamp assembly. It comes off very easily. I was going to change out the rear turn lamps too, but haven't found the appropriate bulb.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

Here is my bro's blue RT with the silver turn signals installed. In addition to the wingnut from inside, there are two pull-out plastic fasteners from the trunk frame to remove. Pretty simple. Interestingly, there is a small bulb socket not being used. On my Impala, I bought European-spec headlights with a small bulb socket which over there was used as a parking light on one side of the car (narrow roads there).

See the unused bulb socket (very small) at the bottom right of this picture. This is the back of the bottom of the passenger side rear lens housing. That small bulb would light up the red lower reflector area if utilized. This screams out MOD!!

Any information or a part number for the silver turn signals bulbs that were installed in the tail lights above, or in the front by DMAG?

Has anyone MOD'd this for extra lighting in the rear of their Magnum?

This is probably for a rear fog light bulb (European only) installation. I may have to check this out.............

No write up, but I did remove them and reinstall them the same way while I did the turn signals with no issue.

I got a lot of info from this thread: Best fog lamps available

I am looking at what it will take to put together a group buy of the HIRs. Looks like with enough people each person could save $15-$40 on a set of 4. (2 high beam and 2 low beam)

What about the 194, do we need to remove the headlights for that?
