Programming a key to your LX *

    written by Jim.

Below are the directions for programming a new key. Tthe documentation says that this method will only work on domestic(US) vehicles. Non US has to have the dealer program new keys.

    • 1. Insert one of two programmed keys and turn ignition switch to on.

      2. After ignition has been set to On for over 3 seconds but not more than 15 seconds turn the ignition back to Off.

      3. With in 15 seconds insert the second key and turn the ignition switch to on.

      4. About 10 seconds later the security indicator in the instrument cluster will start flashing.

      5. With in 60 seconds replace the second key in the ignition with the new key. Turn the ignition switch to On using the new key.

      6. After about 10 seconds the security indicator will stay on for about 3 seconds and then turn off to indicate that the key was successfully programmed. Turn the ignition to Off and you can now use the new key with the vehicle.

You can program up to 8 keys to a vehicle.

if you only have one programmed key, you must go to dealer to have another programmed.

Can you reprogram a a kew from another vehicle to a new vehicle?
I bought a used key off ebay that was used on another vehicle and tried the programming sequence on it, and instead of the final blinking light going solid, and then off...it just kept blinking. I think I saw the red light and the engine light blinking back and fourth too.

I want to reset, or reprogram the used key to work with my car.
Can the key only be programmed once?
What if I used a magnetic eraser on it?
    Anyone know?

once a key has been programmed to a vehicle, it will only work on that vehicle. just like a SKREEM interface module for remote start.

Ah exactly the info I was looking for. after buying my viper 791XV and bypass kit on ebay, I found cheap transponder keys for use with the bypass. Was looking all over for programming instructions. Thanks a lot.

And there is no way to "wipe" or clean a programmed key, fnky? There is no way for a locksmith to reprogram a key once it has been set, huh?

I was unable to get this to work for me. I think the problem is that the key I am trying to program is a key the dealership had lost when I took my car in for servicing. They gave me a new key and erased the old one from the car. They then found the key and gave it back to me. Does anyone know if it is possible to make this key work again? I have tried the procedure several times, but have had no luck.

you should be able to reprogram an erased key as long as it was erased from your vehicle.

It is possible to reuse an old key! Just have to switch out the chip... If you don't have a second key already, take some lube to the dealer with ya... If you are in SoCal and need a key PM me... I can do it for way less!

This is the closest search I could find on this subject. And I found the instructions in the manual as posted in the 1st post here.
Here's my problem. We have 2 fob's, one (call FOB 1) "was" working with memory 1 in the car, and the other (call FOB 2) is still working with memory 2. The both work fine locking and unlocking the car and trunk. FOB 2 will always set the memory in the car to #2 when you unlock and start the car, even if the previous driver set the memory to #1. But FOB #1 will not change the memory to #1 settings. It will stay at how ever the car was set to from the provoius setting (driver).
I'm trying to figure out how to reprogram FOB #1 so the Memory will see it as FOB (memory) #1, with out having to take it to the dealer.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Kevin
