I recently accidentally disconnected my battery in my car and noticed that my window Auto Up was no longer working. I stopped by the dealership and this is the procedure we went through to get it working again.
This is for Vehicles equipped with the Auto Window Switches (Marked "Auto" on the switch) for driver and passenger windows.
1. Turn the key to on.
2. Roll the window down all the way and hold for 10 seconds. (This resets the auto down)
3. Pull the switch up and hold for 10 seconds. (This resets the auto up)
They said that if you listen very closely, you could hear a click from the switch after 10 seconds showing that it has reset.
Tada! Your windows will now be able to roll up and down with a single press of the switch.![]()

This means you have the standard power windows, where the driver's window is auto down only when pressing all the way down to the second detent and releasing. No auto up. Auto up/down windows have extra detents in the front window switches for express opening or closing. Pressing the switch all the way down to the second detent and releasing it causes window to open completely without driver input. Pressing down only half way, or to the first detent is manual operation. Lifting all the way up to the second detent and releasing it causes window to close completely without driver input. Lifting only half way up to first detent is manual operation. Standard power windows use a circuit breaker in the master (LF) switch to control express opening. Auto up/down (express) windows use different front window switches, different window regulators that contain hall-effect switches to detect window position, unique door wiring, and electronic door modules on the CAN bus that look at the signals from the hall effect switches and control power and ground to the regulators.
Thanks for posting this thread.
My drivers side recently stopped going up automatically. Did the 10 second trick and bingo, it's back.
Thanks again.

I just had my car at the dealership today for the front passenger side window which wouldn't go down. They had to replace the regulator. I got the car back but the auto up no longer worked (I have auto up/down on both front windows). They took the car back and used the Starscan to fix it. I thought I had read there was a procedure that didn't require Starscan. I was right.
Apparently a new regulator installation requires a reset as well as a battery disconnection.
Why did the auto up feature on my driver's side window stop working. Only the up feature on the driver's side stopped working. I just reset it, and now it works fine.?????
