Would a standard LX spare fit on the rear of an SRT8?

Why do I ask? Well, the SRT8 has no spare, just a pump with liquid bubble gum to seal holes. If a hole is significant or the tire shreds, you're screwed.

So here's my thinking, if a standard Magnum (or whatever) spare fits over the rear Brembo caliper, then even a front flat could be accomodated by moving the rear wheel to the front and mounting the spare on the back.

    Beats being stranded.

I did a search looking for what the standard spare looks like, but no luck. Anyone got a pic, or better still, tried one?

Wouldn't it ride funny with 3 20" wheels, and only one 18" wheel?

I'm also fairly certain (but not 100%) that the stock R/T wheel cannot clear our Brembos.

I think you're right. And you're also right about two different diameters would not be good, especially in the rear.

I think I'm going to look for a slightly damaged SRT wheel on Ebay and throw it in the trunk on long trips.

Hey guys, bear in mind, the rim size is not the outside diameter of the tire size....

The Brembos on the back are smaller than the front, so there may not be the same clearance issue.

I haven't checked to see if an SRT wheel will fit in the spare compartment but I suspect the biggest problem is the width.

Aha, the answer is here... Thanks hemiwagn!

    http://www.300cforums.com/forums/212269-post6.html

The space saver spares on the RTs will fit on the rear.
I did a test fit last time I was at the dealer. It will clear the rear with no problem, the fronts......forget it....not even with a spacer. My thought was to get the space saver rim, the jack, lug wrench and all the mounting hardware. If I get a flat in the rear, no worries, if I get one on the front, then I would just put the space saver on the rear and move the rear tire to the front.
The steel rim is around $100, so is the tire, the jack is $65 or so, and by the time you are all done.....around $300 to get the whole kit from the dealer.
This is the best solution I have come up with thus far.

Yeah, all the SRT's should come with nav, so you can tell them where to find you...

But what is the outside diameter of the space saver tire? If it's significantly different than the SRT's 20's, which I suspect it is, you will have problems in the rear.

I can see an awful lot of brake wear / abuse with this setup. Won't ESP try to keep both rear wheels rolling along at the same speed? Or woud we have to pull Fuse 17 to completely disable it?

I'd help you try a test fit Jaak, but I think that my offset would be all wrong. (AWD)

It's interesting looking at the comments, but bear in mind the choices...

I'll take mismatched F1's on the front and the same on the back, to be able to limp to somewhere for a replacement tire, over being stranded, anytime.

But here's the reality check, guys... Is it a problem on the R/T?

If you look at the outside diameter of an R/T's 225/60/18 vs. an SRT's 245/45/20 they're about the same. So if the SRT would have an issue with the spare, then all those R/T's that come with that spare would have the same issue.

Rim diameter increase on the SRT is lost in sidewall height, so the end result tire diameter is about the same.

I'm not too worried about offset on a skinny tire....

Just being able to get there is worth it.

If you can afford an RT or SRT then you can afford AAA. These guys have bailed me out of BFE on more than one occasion (BFE=Bum F Egypt if ya didn't know). Every time I called them I told them flatbed or no-tow and they obliged. Or they brought me the exact match to the part that failed and fixed it road-side, no charge except for parts. Think about it, it's a low monthly charge and they have people everywhere that honor it.
