    What mufflers should I use?

I have noticed that a few have replaced the suitcase with new mufflers. All the searching I have done has shown that my only choice is mufflers with 3" tubes. Being that the SRT exhaust is 2 3/4" is there any mufflers that will weld up in place or do I have to go with 3" and have a reducer on both ends?

Dont know about the size. But the FM 40's have a terrible drone if you take off the resonators. I had 40s on my lil 3.5L (no resos) and it drove me crazy, so much that I had them swap them out with a Dynomax 2 days later. After some four wheeling I damaged the DynoMax and replaced it with a FM 50. Best choice so far for me, nice tone and slight drone when WOT.

Here is the FM50 with out the resonator. Used a digital cam to record, it is deeper than it sounds here

I just came back from the exhaust shop. They showed me that the exhaust is reduced to a 2 1/2" flange as it goes into the suitcase, so they suggest 2 1/2" mufflers. Does that sound right?

I would be inclined to as 06MagnumSRT (Paul) as he replaced the muffler with a zoomers muffler and deleted the resonators. Sounds pretty hot!

    I have 3" FM 50's, I wouldn't go with 2.5", why re-constrict the exhaust?

That's what I said to them but they told me it doesn't matter since the muffler is an expansion chamber anyway. The stock exhaust definitely reduces down before and after the suitcase.

I personally like the Gibson stuff, you can get their stuff your choice of materials, x pipes welded up to mufflers all ready to put on your car.. they told me the SRTs like to breath so 3" pipes and no resos would work great! their stuff is priced right and they sound great.

I'm going with a pair of 2.5" aerochambers. I know with the LS2's the headers, mids and placement of the x-pipe had more of an impact in regards to power than the size of the mufflers themselves. I had a 402 and was running 2.5" magnaflows but my mids were like 3"-3.5" along with the x-pipe.

Like Wetcoast said, I i did Zoomers 3" mufflers, the 3" pipe fits nicely over the 2.75" pipe, so as long as you get anything 3" you'll be ok.

I do really like the sounds of the Zoomers. Any idea how much $ just the mufflers are?

They are pretty pricey, $350 or so per muffler, i scored a awsome deal on mine, found them on ebay for $120 for both.

Isn't the Zoomers muffler just a straight through design?

I've been thinking about running some 3" straight through mufflers in place of the suitcases and a set of 3" single chambers in place of the resonators.

Cant seem to find any pictures of my exhaust. The ones i got were about maybe 15" long and straight through. Some nice 3" straight through resonators might work well in place of the stock ones. I do get quite a bit of drone at certain rpms, right around 2000 or so but i dont mind it. I see your in socal, if you wanna wait till march ill be bringing my car down there for the lx festival so you can hear it. I can try to get some pics from under the car tomorrow.
