What kind of numbers does a 6.0L GTO put down?

I ran into one today on the highway, and I murdered him with my Charger SRT8... I would think he just let off but I'm not sure. What HP numbers do they put down? What 1/4 mile times/traps to people see? I know it's easy to compare to our low 13s/102mph traps.

Not too sure about their numbers, but from what I've witnessed and experinced, they are a tad over rated......stock. Now with a few mods, they can be very fast!

Good driver who knows how to stick the tires and they run low 13's high 12's, they run independent suspension like us and they are a bear to launch without sticky tires (even harder than the LX vehicles). Trap speeds are very close to what the SRT's put down, a little exhaust work (headers, catback) can put these things in the high 300whp range, cam it and watch the #@ck out. Biggest thing is the driver, bad 60' from a average driver usually results in high 13's I have even seen low 14's from these things (with the LS2).

All the above talk was about the LS2 powered vehicle, with the LS1 they usually run mid 13's to low 14's with the average driver.

One thing to keep in mind, the first years of the new GTO came with a LS1 350 hp (these have no hood slits), the newer faster models have the LS2 400 hp(these have the hood slits). They are a heavy vehicle as they are made in Australia, the steel they use over there is thicker due to the environment along with a beefy suspension setup that handles like poo.

They are a good match for an SRT. The good thing is that I still have tons of room for luggage and friends.

I walked on one, but not by much at all. We both had intakes and exhausts. They're a pretty even match for sure. If you race one with ESP on and your car in Drive, you might fall behind a little bit.

AND - most importantly, everyone can tell you aren't driving a 6-cylinder Pontiac GrandAm.

There was a white GTO at the track in Reynolds that was running 11's 'on a good night' - guess that night wasn't a 'good one'..

I raced one in Indy this summer. He had exhaust, heads, cam and tune. He said he was over 550hp. Even running DRs he had a hard time hooking up, said he was actually 3 tenths or so slower than he was stock. I ran a 14.0xx and he ran a 13.8xx if I recall. I do know he only beat me by .001 to the 1000ft mark and I think he trapped at 109mph. From a roll, he would've murdered me.

btw, all my 5.7 has is K&N CAI, SLP LM II catback and 176* tstat.

Like everyone said, the LS2's are the ones that will give you a run, the LS1's, not so much stock. I ran an LS1 GTO vs. my CTS-V. It was crazy hot and the track sucked. I was running 13.5's @ 107 and he was 14.2's @ 102. Add another 50 hp and it would've been close. The other advantage they have is gear. GTO's run a 3.46 vs. our 3.06. That'll get 'em out of the whole a little better than us.

Is that the best way to run these SRT8's? auto stick down as far as it will go while mashing the gas? (and turning off ESP)?

I have one on my "kill list".

Beat him by almost .9 second @ Englishtown.

I have the time slip in Photobucket, but I can't post links on this "work" computer.

EDIT: I just checked the timeslip.

It was my best run of 12.866 to the Goats 13.977. W/the holeshot I beat him by over 1.14 seconds.

Stock for stock it will be a driver's race period. They are only 25hp less at the crank but almost 900 pounds lighter. There are plenty of substantiated reports of stockers running 12's.

The 6 speeds are easier to beat because it is a hard car to control (poor suspension) and some driver's haven't mastered them.

The automatics are tougher because they are as foolproof as our cars in that respect.

We get better traction on a hard launch, but they are demons when they hook up right.

Now as far as mods go... they are easy as hell to mod and gain a lot from most "common" mods. While we struggle and would drop over 1500 bucks to gain 30 or so hp, they can get a canned tune for $400 and gain about 35hp.

Beware, as many are running superchargers, or the deadly APS twin turbo systems. Sick-fast is the only way to put it.

You drop about $4k into a GTO and you'll see mid to sometimes low 11's. If it weren;t for the terrible wheelhop issues you would only have to spend HALF that to gain those numbers.

Here is the 06 I owned briefly. Mine was a 6 speed that would get totally sideways in 1st, 2nd, AND 3rd gears....

Having just sold http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthr...&highlight=sts my Goat I can speak from first hand experience.
Mine was an 04 with the dealer option hood (so not all 04's have the flat hood). I would say it was very similar to an SRT8 stock for stock. I think the LS2 would edge out an SRT8 only because of the weight factor. A stock 04 Gto will dyno around 295rwhp. A stock 05-06 Gto will be around 333rwhp.

The SRT8 seems to handle better and definitely has better brakes. The wheel hop was a problem but a marginal fix was inexpensive.

Like it was mentioned before, beware of one that is running boost. My STS was an animal, and would rape my Charger.

I love my new Charger. Can't beat all the power with 4 doors and a useable trunk. Now if we could get some programming so we can run boost

    Very good insight guys! Thanks!

The automatic was only a 4 speed... was it really that fast? (the 6.0L) Ours is a 5 speed. Iam not a transmission expert, but they're goign to be running longer gears than the LX... so I would think less power to the ground on average.. Thoughts?

What was the sticker price on the 05-06 GTO's?

Oh yeah, and juust looked up the curb weight. 3725lbs. So 25HP less HP and 20ftlbs less torque. 275lbs heavier. My ballpark calculator of; 10HP = 100lbs = 0.1s 1/4 mile time difference; puts them slightly ahead. (maybe that only works for FWD cars?)

When ESP senses wheelspin it'll shut you down. You should feather off a little if you're roasting your treads, but you don't want to be crippled because you went slightly over the threshold and broke traction. I find autostick to be a little faster than just drive, but i haven't verified at a track yet.
