Is this true (about perf chips)?

I'm told that performance chips (like the Jet chip the previous owner installed on my SRT) are installed "down stream" from the ECU. For that reason, the ECU doesn't know that they're even there.

The pointhere is, if you remove the chip before going in for warranty service, the dealer will have no way to tell either.

    Is this true???

The Jet Chip really doesn't do much(or anything) for the SRT's plus they are the thing of the past...

    Not exactly my question, but...

I've read the same thing in 90% of places, but I've found a couple places online that claim to have done dyno testing with about 15-25 hp gains. Guess I'll need to try a few runs back to back using the gtech. Someday maybe at a real track.

Yeah, its not really an effective thing.

The only real results are from Tuners, Diablo, S/C, etc...

But I believe you are right, that they literally trick the computer into some fake setting allowing it to get more power?

You are correct. The jet chip modifies the input and output signals of the PCM and is installed in line with the wiring harness. And yes, you can remove it and no one will ever know.

I had a Jet 2 chip once on my RT Magnum. It started running like crap, took it to the dealer, the problem was the freaking chip, it had fried. Save your $ get a real tuner.

This is somewhat the point of my question. If the chip is downstream and the ECU doesn;t know it's there, the active system won't affect it.

All the jetchip is really doing is telling the computer that everything is wonderful, so use all the timing you want, because it's like, really cold outside. I'd expect it'd mod more than that, but it's a moot point, since 'real' tuners work much much better shuffling bits about.

But if you'd like to try a 5.7 jetchip2, pm me...

    I've already got a 6.1L chip, thanks.

Doesn't a programmer actually reprogram the factory ECU memory? If so, it's possible that it might leave an artifact behind which could possibly tip off the dealer that you messed with it.

Jet Chip is pure garbage, and has been since it was put out for our cars.

Even when we had no other tuning options, the smart ones never bothered with it. But now that there are actual REAL gains (not the BS gains you were told about) from the Diablo why would anyone consider anything else?

And the Superchips 'tuner' is nearly as useless when compared to the Diablo, but it was a serious alternative to the Jet Chip before the Diablo was around.
