Interesting find... I bet it only takes off the first stage though and not the one where you have to hold the button for 6-8 seconds.

someone on here did a clever write up on the bypass similar to the gsm mod but cut the wire under the armrest portion of the console instead of up front in the engine bay. It's the same wire, just clipped right at the module instead of at the wiring harness.

I bet it's the first stage too. If you turn it completely off with any of the mods we have so far, you need to do a power cycle to turn it back on.

But, by all means, check it out for us.

Would you guys want a module that did the "6 sec button press" for you on startup? I could build 'em without much trouble.

I'm not in the electronics fab biz, so I don't see myself mass producing 'em any time soon. But if I have extra time I don't mind throwing a few together for folks.

Ike, just noticed you're in Katy too, surprised I haven't run into you yet

Okay, I built one and the proto is sitting here on the bench. Who feels comfortable pulling apart their dash and testing? What's the lxforums policy for an individual building and selling little stuff like this?

I built the module so its configurable without adding any extra buttons or switches, and has audible feedback so you know what it is setup to do. Its programmed via the regular ESP button. Current software works like this:

    1. Turn the key ON (don't have to start the car).
    2. Press and release the ESP button three times within 3 seconds -- unit will beep 5 times in rapid succession to indicate you're in program mode.
    3. Press the ESP button 1, 2, or 3 times to indicate which mode you want the ESP system in after you start the car: 1 = ESP ON, 2 = ESP off (normal), 3 = ESP off (completely)
    4. Wait 5 seconds and the unit will beep back to you the mode number (ie. 1, 2 or 3 beeps) and exit programming mode.
    5. Cycle the key and voila

Once programmed, the module will wait a few seconds after powering up (for the car to be started) and then mimic the button press you programmed (ie. none, short press, long press). You can of course press the button at any time like you normal would to switch modes.

The 5.7 can't use the "long press" option. It'd do the same as the short press, unfortunately. This only mimics your finger on the button, it really doesn't do anything magical. Just a convenience item.

I'll get one put into a box here once I can break away and get to the local electronics store for the parts. Keep ya posted, and thanks for the offer to test, Todd.

Went through the proto again last night checking for bugs, and it works exactly like it should -- on the bench. How hard is it to pull the dash apart and get to the ESP button so I can put it in the car?

Since its programmable, it will work on all cars with an ESP button. It also passes through the normal button presses, so if you program it to disable ESP on startup and wifey wants to drive the car, she can just punch the button and turn the system back on. It takes less than 15 seconds to program your choice, so you could always program it to the stock setting if you know someone else will be driving the car next.

Can't think of any other features to code into the software right now, so unless you guys can come up with ideas I'm going to call it "done."
