Unhappy Tore of my front today

I parked my 2 months old Magnum SRT-8 this morning and when I pulled out I didn't notice that the concrete barrier had two bolts sticking out to which the front got stuck to. So when I pulled out it tore the plastic of the bumper on the left side and the top. Luckily I am able to tape it for now and drive it. Already called the insurance and took it to a body shop. Sounds like they will replace the front bumper. By the way, do those get painted by the shop? Wonder if the insurance will go up. The SRT-8 must be lower than my old R/T. How do you guys make sure those things don't happen to you. Still mad at myself...

Yes, the SRT8 is lower than your R/T (unless you lowered your R/T). Yes, the body shop will have to paint the new fascia should you get one. Are you sure you need one though? I did the exact same thing you did (and about 2 months after I owning my SRT8 too, must be that false sense of parking confidence at that point). Because I did it in reverse, the fascia was actually undamaged. The under body-shield that the fascia attaches to was shot though. The fascia was pulled forward by the curb and pulled all the screws through the shield tearing the holes (think ripping out an ear ring). The two heads of 2 bolts that hold the fascia to the fender just popped through the slot and were easily put back in whith a wider washer. In the end, all I needed was 2 washers, a new under body shield, and the 10 little screws and speed nuts to attach the fascia to it.

To avoid doing this again I suggest backing into spaces. And yes, your insurance will go up if you make a claim.

I just avoid spots with curbs, or if that isn't possible I stop well short of it.

Unfortunately it is really torn at the top where it attaches to the frame of the car (by the hood) and also on the left side by the wheel. The plastic is really broken there and you cannot screw it back in. Without the tape it would totally hang loose.

I have Geico. Will see by how it will go up. After the $250 deductible I asssume they have to pay another $500 to $750.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like you will have to get the whole thing. As someone else who did it, I feel for you. Trust me, after hearing that horrible sound, you learn REAL quick how to stop short in a parking space.

I think you'll be looking at around $1500 painted for a new fascia.

Man that sucks. Time to do a R/T front end swap ...J/K . Like hemi31 says backing in is always a good choice as the front is a bit lower then the R/T.

Wow, sorry to hear that... Here's some pictures for a reference. Mine got cracked when I slid in the rain and bumped a caddie. Cost me around a grand to fix, and I did the work except for the paint.

Thanks for all the sympathy! Looks like they will get the part in next week. Until then I will drive around with tape around the bumper :-(
I assume these days they can do a good job on matching the color. I have a red one just like jaak.
