Threw a code when going into neutral while coasting to a stop?

Does this sound like a normal event to throw a code? I was pulling into a parking spot and put it in neutral as I was going about 1 mph, before going to park normally. The moment I went to neutral I hear a "ding" and the light comes on.

    Code

Thanks man. I guess that woulda been my next question!

It pulled code P 0128, which appears to be:

    Powertrain
    SAE (whatever that means)
    Fuel and Metering
    Fault # 28

Guess I need to figure out what fault 28 is.

    Found it.

Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

I just bought the car, so I'm still learning about what I got myself into!

Is that a normal thing to see if you're running a 180* stat? The Po installed it I think. It also has the Jet Stage 2 chip, so that would make sense.

Oh, and thanks for the welcome! I'll need to go post in the newb section I guess.

    P0128-THERMOSTAT RATIONALITY
    • When Monitored: With the engine running, start up coolant temperature between –8° C (17.6° F) and 50° C (122° F), the difference between ambient temperature and coolant temperature less than 10° C (50° F) and average vehicle speed greater than 16 kph (10 mph) for more than 18% of vehicle run time.
    • Set Condition: The PCM detects that the actual engine coolant temperature does not reach the predicted engine coolant temperature within a specific time. Two trip fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.
    Possible Causes
    TEMPERATURE SENSOR WIRING OR CONNECTORS
    ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL AND CONDITION
    THERMOSTAT <<< most likely cause
    TEMPERATURE SENSOR

this has nothing to do with your neutral shift.

Thanks man. Where'd you get those veryspecific details?

Ever hear of this code popping up often on cars with the cooler stat? Seems reasonable I guess.

180* t-stat would be a likely suspect. plenty of members run that temp. i think they use autostick to keep the revs high enough to ensure the engine temp reaches at least 180*.
