Lowers your engin temp..allowing you to keep your horse power. I don't have the part numbers but if you do a search you can find post with them in it. I is a good mod.

Just changing the TSTAT W/O a fan mod will do nothing for you in traffic or while idling in the staging lanes.

The TSTAT opens @ a specified temperature to allow hot coolant to leave the block & enter the radiator & it also allows cool coolant to enter the block to replace the hot coolant.

The TSTAT modulates this to keep the engine block coolant @ the desired temperature. The lower temperature TSTAT alone will keep your engine cooler @ hi-way speeds because air is being forced through the radiator keeping a fresh supply of cooled coolant @ the ready.

The problem arises when you are not traveling @ a speed sufficient to cool the hot coolant that the engine is pushing into the radiator. The stock fan switches do not turn on the fans until the coolant temperatrure reaches 216*F.

Given this scenerio, although the TSTAT is opening @ say 180*F, the temperture of the coolant in the radiator soon reaches that same temperature & is then driven even higher as the 180*F coolant is passed through the engine block again drawing even more heat . The temperature of the coolant will climb until either the car starts moving @ a speed sufficient to bring RADIATOR temperature down or the fans are some how switched on to do likewise.

The main advantage of the lower temperature TSTAT is the reduction of what is known as "heat soak". Heat soak is when the engine & engine bay becomes so hot that it heats the incoming air, reducing it's density thereby reducing power output.

Combining a lower temperature TSTAT W/an effective fan mod keeps the engine & intake charge cool allowing more HP to be produced than what would be produced by an engine running 20* to 40* hotter. This can be significant, as much as 30 HP or more.

Just about everthing you need to know is here, including a video that shows just how easy it is to change TSTATs in these cars.

Motorad 180 is a good option. Autozone. Fan mod or Preditor is a must.

The factory fans are set @ 10*F higher than the TSTAT opening temperature.

Any aftermarket automatic set up should be similar, 5*F to 10*F higher would be my preference.
