Thumbs up srt4 vs srt8 video

A certain Magnum owner that I uhhh...know very well, ran his black srt8 against a local SRT4 Neon. The neon had just gone 13.47s @ 102mph at the local weekend dragfest. The Magnum is stock.(Best repeated G-Tech results are three runs back to back at 13.1s-13.3s with a trap of 111-112mph. O-60 in 4.83-4.97 over three tries) They did a total of five runs from 30-40mph roll and one from a dead stop. The results can be seen here http://media.putfile.com/SRT-4vsSRT-8On the last one in the clip the Magnum driver tried shifting manually but tagged the redline from 1st to 2nd as well as from 2nd to 3rd. The SRT8 did come back to take over near the end of third gear though. Enjoy...

That might seal the deal for an SRT for me. All that, plus the guy can carry 3 friends and all their stuff for the weekend.

As nice as that is stock to stock those srt4's will get up in power and speed very quickly with minimal cost's. But I am impressed that stock the Magnum srt8 pulled the little srt4 like it did

    me too and surprised.
at least by the amount of srt4 ass I have looked at. Dude at the track ran a freakin 11 the other night. Not stock but man I could do 5 figures of mods to a memi and not get into 11s.
I use to think they were cute little cars. Now they are really fast cute little cars.

Man, I got wood watching that video.

I tested the SRT 4 when I shopped for my Magnum RT. Loved the getup and go it had, but the seats grabbed my hips and sides like a bjj black belt. If I had the extra coin I would get it for a fun car. Used to be you could get dealer installed upgrade good for 300 HP on the SRT4. Man would that thing run.

Heck, any SRT-4 owner can still get the +300whp (pump gas,350whp racegas) Stage 3 turbo upgrade for the car from Mopar. I know, I have it on mine

They are monsters but I don't know if you really cross-shop them with the SRT8?

Two different cars, two different purposes. I test drove a couple SRT4s, but I am not crazy about front wheel drive, regardless of how well executed of a platform it is on. You can garnish a hamburger only so well, it will never turn into steak... BTW a stock SRT4(not you stage 3 guys) would get destroyed by any of the SRT6, 8 or 10 vehicles. Yes I know how easy the Neons are to mod, to a point. My project vehicle is an 89 Merkur XR4Ti that will be 400RWhp for about $7000, with a 2.3l inline 4, ported 8 valve head, Holset HY35 turbo(good for 550hp crank!), truck intercooler, Haltech standalone and brakes and suspension to match. I didnt buy my Magnum to mod it, it is just too heavy for that to make $en$e. The little Merkur will carry about 2700lbs for a curb weight. The Magnum would have to put down 600 to the wheels for the same effect.

Besides, my Magnum is my daily driver that I spend about 3-4hrs A DAY in. Try shifting a manual for that long and still thinking that it is fun! This SRT8 has the perfect balance of braking, handling power and comfort for me. I am 6'5" tall, 250lbs and love the room that this car has. The Neon felt a little claustrophic in comparison. Even though it was almost half the price, it was a no brainer for me.
I just thought that you folks would like to see what a stock Magnun SRT8 would do against a modded Neon that ran 13.47s @ 102mph. He did that with drag radials as well(that is why the mph is so slow for the time). And neither car "jumped the other" off the line or on the roll.
And finally the Magnum driver did not realize that there was a camera rolling, nor is hea "street racer" or supporter of it. I think he just gave into a request for a technical evaluation of two different ways of wearing an SRT badge!

The SRT4 is being discontinued from what I am reading. But being a MSRT8 owner, those videos are pretty impressive, as far as the SRT4's performance goes!

No need to talk like that, jaak. They are proving to be very durable powerplants. Mine is at 60K, has made many track passes, sports +100whp over stock, thanks to Mopars Stage 3 upgrade kit, and is doing fine.

Properly cared for and modified, its a very good motor.
