Showed off my new tinted tails.. to a 6.0 GTO

Yep, he got a nice long look at my new tails.

It took a few lights after I noticed the GTO for us to get lined up at a redlight, but it finally happened. Middle aged guy driving, and he gave me "the nod" before the light turned green. I went into autostick mode and the ESP was already fully off.

I had a good hop on him because I hooked up well. We were pretty even in 1st gear, I began to pull away in the high rev range in 2nd, and by 3rd I had him by one solid length. By the time we hit 4th gear I had a good 2-2 and a half lengths on him and we both shut down.

He was cool and waved at me as I slowed down. He was obviously stock, and I probably had the edge because of the minor mods I have. Had he been evenly modded, or we both been stock I think it would have been a tough and tight race. Gotta give 'em credit, they have some serious go to them, it's just too bad they look like a bloated Sunfire.

Nice!!! It is too bad they F'd up the body design of a car that has one of the most recognizeable names in muscle car history.

Great kill. Leave her in drive next time and you'll be even quicker. Been proven by numerous LX'ers at the strips.

GTO's are quick and a pretty good value I suppose, but man is that an UGLY car. Looks like a Cavalier and Grand Prix had an off-spring. Not to mention all the problems and poor build quality. No offense, but I'd take a Mustang if I wanted a V8 coupe, save the money and invest it in a nice s/c for the 'stang and have a faster AND much better looking coupe than the GTO.

    Thumbs up

Good kill on the GTO. I havent been able to run a 6.0 yet, but it should be a very close race, if he can drive.

Drove a GTO a couple of months ago. They are the real deal! Don't know if I could take the stick shift 24/7 after driving the MSRT8 though. But that GTO is a real muscle car and lot's of fun to drive. I've seen a couple of black ones with wheelssince then and they don't look that bad to me now that I have driven one.

I do agree with lieu910. If I'm going to run with someone. I put her in D. Turn off the A/C and the ESP and let the computer do it's thing.

    Nice kill!

Nah, looks good... look at the back of a Charger. Magnum looks good all around because when building it they actually thought hard and came up w/ something that looked good. For a Charger they just found some pig on the side of the road w/ its face torn all to crap and thought it looked mean.

For the GTO they didn't even have to try, it was already there. Kind of cheap but the Charger wasn't that much more impressive.

Being a GTO owner ('06 Spice/M6), obviously I certainly like the look. But, I also like the look of the Dodge lineup as well, especially the SRT-8 Charger.

I have to agree with the comment that the GTO is 'understated' in its appearance but for me, that is one thing I like about this car. Are there better looking (more aggressive looking, perhaps?) cars out there? Absolutely - and I think the Charger is at the top of the list (especially in black!) with the new Mustang almost a tie. But I think the GTO's looks are a very, VERY close second IMHO. It's definitely far from 'ugly'!

Someday, I will own an SRT-8 Charger. Until then, I am VERY satisfied with my GTO - in looks and especially performance. And not needing a four-door, I think the GTO has the absolute most comfortable and nicest interior of all of them. But again, that's just my opinion and to each his own.

Here's a pic of my car:

    And, the interior...

My beef with thr GTO is that it just doesn't stand out enought against Pontiacs line up. It's their top dog and deserved to be styled as such. The other thing that puts me off is that GM is always holding back with it so as to not step on the toes of Vett's. They could have created a lot more buzz about the car had the released a "Judge Edition" or something else that put down say 450 hp.
