Ordering Tomorrow - Questions

I've been following this forum and a couple of other related forums for a week and need some help with a Magnum order. I apologize if these questions have been beaten to death in other threads - my search ability has not been too good.

I stopped by my local Dodge dealer Saturday and got to talking with him about ordering an SRT8 Magnum. He said they can order one for $100 down and if I don't like it when it comes in, I can get my $100 back. I asked about charging above MSRP and the salesman said that they don't beleive in doing that - which is believable since I live close to this dealer and stop by there regularly and have never seen additional markup on cars that other dealers marked up.

So I am thinking that for a hundred bucks, what have I got to lose? I'm going tomorrow (Monday) and write them a check and have the following questions that I hope some of you have answers for:

1. Is there a way to tell if this dealer will even be able to get the car? I have read posts about dealer allocations but does that apply to customer ordered cars or just cars going to dealer stock? Is there something I should ask the dealer about? He seems very helpful but not computer saavy - I'm sure many of you know more about his DCX ordering system than he does. I get the feeling I need to help him help me.

2. Color - I've ruled out black since many owners of black Magnums talk about how dirty they look and I have seen 2 on the road that in fact looked filthy. How is the red for staying clean looking? Is the SRT8 red the same Inferno Red that is used on the R/T's? Are the slivers the same?

3. Does anybody know if the SRT8 comes with adjustable pedals?

A car ordered for a customer will take precedence over their regular "lot" stock. They will still have to have an available allocation spot for it, though.

Red is typically pretty good at hiding light dirt. It can't hold a candle to the Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl in terms of the deep shine after a wax job, though.

Something like this usually happens:

"That," he said, "that ... is really bad for the eyes ..."

Adjustable pedals are standard on the 300C srt8, so I'm sure they'll be available on the Magnum.

My dealer wanted $1000 for my order. Price was MSRP. I got silver..my black RT looks dirty the day after it is washed. (sure looks great for one day!)

I live at the beach and I ordered a black srt8 only after finding a flyer at my local car wash offering "unlimited" car washes for about $30.00 a month. I also have a garage so I'm hoping I can live with the black.

PS: Another great thing is my favorite Mexican restaraunt is next door to the car wash with the world's greatest margaritas! So if you get the car washed 10 times a month..... let's see, that's $3.00 per car wash plus $10.00 for margaritas, that's only $130.00 per month! And the greatest part is you really don't give a $h.t about how good a job they do after a couple margaritas anyway.

Thanks for all your help - especially the tip on the 'ritas.

I ordered one today in Inferno Red - now I just have to wait.

I asked the salesman about allocation and would I ever actually see this car and he said that he had been told by the DC rep that every dealer would get 'some' of the SRT8's. He said that he had sold 2 SRT10 Rams and had an SRT4 in the showroom and that DC would call him up and twist his arm to get him to place an order for the slow-moving cars in order to get the hot items. I know some salesmen lie like rugs and many of them are just not very well informed by their management and by DC - this guy seemed to be trying to be truthful, but I don't know how well informed he is.

He did say that it would take about 2 weeks to get a VIN. He said it would be August before the car would arrive - best case. He thought I was the first Magnum SRT8 that had been ordered there.

Does anybody know how the other SRT cars and trucks are selling and if they are indicators of what dealers will get for SRT8's? I'm guessing that if Ram SRT10's are in short supply and this dealer was able to get 2, then maybe they have allocation for my Magnum.

I'm a bit confused about dealer allocation. When I ordered my car, I specifically asked the inventory manager if my order was dependant on dealer allocation and he said "no" because he was ordering the car as a "sold vehicle".

So, what's the real scoop? Is dealer allocation necessary to get a SRT8 or any car?

From what I have read, not all dealers are able to get SRT models so if your guy had them, he qualifies. I was told by my salesman (fleet manager) that the larger dealers will proably get the first vehicles but they are also the ones adding "dealer mark-ups" to the vehicles. My dealer is a smaller one so I will be happy to see my car in July or August.

I wish a factory rep would post the actual policy here and put this question to bed. I see it on every forum I visit.

I ordered a Charger SRT8 last month. They told me possible September delivery but more likely October

That is the way it worked here.

The local Chrysler dealer got 1 300C SRT8 while the big regional dealer in Philly has delivered 12 so far
