    Octane boosters

Question for anyone who uses any pour in the tank octane boosters...

I used to rely heavily on 104+ Octane on EVERY fillup on my old Typhoon. It made a serious difference in the performance and reliability. She did not like to run on the measly 92 octane we get in this area so the extra little bit helped her run smoother.

Problem was that once I started using it, I HAD to continue to do so. Not doing so even once made her react like a crack addict in need of a fix.

Has anyone used octane boosters in their SRT yet? If so, did you feel a difference? Are you able to selectively use it, or is the engine now reliant upon it??

I'm no expert but I've modded plenty of computer controlled vehicles. I believe without a custom tune your limited to DC's best case scenario tuning. In other words, the ECM will add timing up to a pre-determine limit barring any knock. If it senses knock, it retards timing. If you have no knock with 93 octane you get maximum timing / horsepower. Raising to 104 or higher octane gets you the same maximimum timing / horsepower and no more.

I'd stay away. Number one the off the shelf products will only up your octane by a fraction of one octane point. Trust me on this. If you do the math, those products do very little octane boosting indeed. In addition, they used to foul plugs pretty bad. Now, toulene or xylene can do more for the octane number, but I really question if your car will run any better with the stock tune.

DO NOT fall for the "Autozone" type octane boosters. The only things they boost is their profits.

Your Typhoon was forced induction so bumping octane would reduce knock, letting your turn up the boost a tad....I wouldn't bother in a normally aspirated engine without crazy high compression and even then, I'd get better gas instead of that octane boost junk. My favorite for my old turbo car was VP16...117 octane leaded...mmmm yummy But it was $6.50 a gallon......I can't even imagine what they're charging for it now!
