    Major Fan Problems

I already mentioned this on 300cforums, but nobody there has heard of a fan issue with our vehicles. Here are the details:

Last Monday (23 July), both of my fans stopped working. I noticed because as I was pulling in front of my house the temp was rising past 230. By the time I backed into my garage it was at 246 (just touching the red). I rolled down the windows and turned off the stereo and the fans were not on. Anyway, I let the car cool down for many hours and then did some troubleshooting. Fuses were good, cables were plugged in, but the fans would not turn on with the A/C or with high temps.

I took the car in on 24 July and it has been there ever since. They changed the relays, the entire fuse block, front control module, fan motors, still nothing. It did work once after changing all those things but then failed again. Supposedly the first replacement fans they received were just like what came in my car. Now they're saying there's a new fan part #, but those fans are on national backorder. They have no idea when the parts will come in. I called Chrysler national support line about 40 times and kept bugging them until they authorized reimbursement for a rental car.

Could it be just the motors they are getting?

Mopar had 1 part number for the fan module (fan, motor, shroud and wiring), but they have changed it to components now, so the fan, motor, shroud and wiring are all seperate.

I show a back order on the fan from the Natonal warehouse.

There are 3 in sanfran warehouse, 4 in newark, and 1 in boston.

Also 2 in dalas, 1 in orlando

There are 17 on back order, but if you can talk to your dealer, see if they can special the part out of a different warehouse.

Alot of times they backorder from the main supply warehouse (national warehouse), but other warehouse still have stock for special orders.

I take that back, that was one of the fans (not sure high or low, my good catalog is gone, and i need a vin number to find out what one), but the other one is on backorder.

43 open back orders, with 528 comming into the warehouses august 1st.

alot of times it takes about a week for them to hit the warehouses, then another 3-5 days for the warehouses to check in, then they get out to the dealers.

Hopefully, the wait will be over soon.

Wow, I finally got my car back today! It only took 14 days.
What finally fixed the fans was replacing the entire fan assembly.
They also replaced the coolant overflow tank after much prodding and poking.
Supposedly they did the o-ring TSB I told them about, but it wasn't listed on the invoice.
The oil change was billed at $100 and some change. I've had many oil changes performed at three other Chrysler dealerships and it was always around $75.

Oh, I forgot to mention how much better the cooling system is working now. The temp has been in the 90s here recently. Before the coolant flush my car temp would fluctuate between 219 and 226 once it was warmed up. Today it was 97 degrees outside and the water temp ranged from 206-210. That's a pretty good improvement. Apparently it helps to not have cottage cheese circulating in the system!

Glad you finally got this one solved! 14 days without my SRT8 would be torture.
