magnum srt-8 fastest production station wagon ever????

what's up you guys? i was thinking it over and it came to me that the magnum srt-8 might be the fastest production station wagon. The only station wagon that i can think of to compete with it would be the audi rs6 avant... but i was looking at the numbers, and even though it is awd and the 0-60 they say is around 4.6 seconds, the quarter mile was around 14 seconds... i know we have users who have gotten their magnum rts to get to the quarter at 14 stock... and we expect the str-8 to be a second faster... so this brings the question... is the magnum srt-8 the fastest production station wagon. Call it what you want, sports tourer, crossover, even SUV, but in each one of those categories i do believe that the magnum srt-8 is still the fastest. If this is true, this means that dodge would have the fastest car under 25K (neon srt-4), the most powerful car under 30K (dodge magnum rt... even though i do believe they raised the base MSRP a smidgeon over 30K)... the fastest pick-up (Ram SRT-10)... the fastest station wagon (magnum srt-8)... and the fastest and most powerful car under 100K (the viper srt-10... although the new corvette z06 might give it a run for it's money)... either way, i'd say that's pretty impressive in my opinion, i shall do more research on the audi rs6 and i hope to get input just incase i'm completely wrong, but i'd say dodge is building a good "track record" (aha) for building fast cars.

well, i just read over one site and the audi rs6 sedan did the quarter mile in 13.35 seconds and the 0-60 in 4.94 seconds... so you gotta figure that the station wagon version of it must be a little bit slower and i'm confident that the magnum srt-8's 0-60 will be 5 or below and the quarter will be below 13.5... either way the rs6 is over $82K and the magnum's under $40K so good job dodge

subject: magnum srt-8 fastest production station wagon ever?

Checked the UK mercedes site -- it says the E55 Estate ("estate" is British for wagon) does 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds. (62 mph is 100 kilometers per hour - a standard european acceleration measure). So an estimated 0-60mph will be, say 4.6 seconds. Probably quicker than the Magnum SRT-8. :(

I guess the Benz is the UBERWAGN

If that's true... then the magnum srt-8 is still the fastest wagon here in the states :D ... or by far the best bang for the buck station wagon ever built

    My first post here, but...

Actually, the E55 AMG Wagon (300 Series) is already here stateside and on sale. I drove next to one last week. Bob Snodgrass, owner of Brumos Porsche and Brumos Motorcars (Mercedes dealer next door) and I drove out of the Porsche driveway at the same time, Thursday night. I was surprised to see the E55 AMG Wagon here already. He wanted to race a bit and SHOW me how much faster it might be than my '99 Porsche 996. There being only about 100 feet between us and the cars at the next light on the other side of the overpass, I declined. Besides, I believe it is easily quicker off the line than my 6-speed.
Faster than an SRT-8 Magnum? We won't know for a few months until SRT-8's are actually produced.
Faster than an Audi RS6 Avant? I believe we will soon see comparo's in the magazines like Road & Track and Motor Trend.
But the SRT-8 will not be the fastest station wagon in the world or even North America, until it actually hits the streets and gets INTO our hands.
Another thread on this forum raves about the Jeep SRT-8. I was raving right along with them until I realized that twin exhaust pipes come right out the middle of the rear bumper, which means no trailer towing package. Magnum SRT-8 literature already lists the trailer towing package as one of the major options. My boat will be very happy behind the Magnum SRT-8. I and will be very happy to be behind the wheel. Wife doesn't know her 2003 Mercedes C240 sedan is history this fall.

well, i was just putting that idea out there. I didn't know that there was an E55 amg wagon and the numbers seem to be really close with the a6 avant... i threw it out there to see if anyone could think of any other station wagon's with some power that could compete with the srt-8. right now it looks like it's just the a6 avant and the e55 amg. That would be a sweet comparison in a magazine, i hope they do it. Even if it's not the fastest... the performance should be fairly close... and since the price will be more than half that of both the audi and the mercedes... i don't think the value can be beat if you don't have 80 to 90K to throw around.

I was looking at buying an E55 wagon before I saw the official news on the Magnum SRT-8. Production for US-spec E55 wagons started in December, so there are a few in the US already.

The official 0-60mph time for the E55 sedan is 4.5s. Several tests put it around 4.2s with 1/4-mile times in the mid 12's. The European specs put the wagon only a hair slower than the sedan, so it should easily be the fastest wagon available. My salesman said the wagon's price is $82,500 plus destination and options, so it's more than double the price of a Magnum SRT-8. The SRT-8 definitely has the bang-for-the-buck going for it.

well, the rs6 avant isn't an US car, only the sedan made it here and they're rarer than hens teeth.. that being said, i've had the privelege of being in one of the sedans.. dodge might meet the acceleration numbers of the rs6, but that's akin to saying dodge can make a silver car, too.. matching the acceleration would get them about 5% of the way towards making a car like the rs6 - there's a reason pobst and galati race rs6s against the best sports coupes on the road..

now, i'm not knocking my magnum, or dodge, or being an audi fanboy or anything, i'm just saying that simply looking at the argument by looking at some performance numbers and pricetags does a great disservice to both cars.. as similar as they all are, they're totally different.. i believe both cars to be worth every penny they're sold for..

It will definitely be interesting to see how the magazines handle these cars. I was stunned and shocked that Road & Track, Car & Driver, and Motor Trend have all just published comparison testing between the 2005 Pontiac GTO and the 2005 Mustang GT and all three showed strong "numerical" advantage hands down in favor of the GTO. But when it came to adding the final two scores of esthectics and price, all three swung the numbers to allow the Mustang to beat the GTO as the overall winner.

Now if we can extrapolate that thinking INTO the future and see the E55 AMG Wagon and/or Audi RS Avant against the Dodge Magnum SRT-8, then it would seem to follow that regardless of the actual numbers, the SRT-8 Magnum will be the hands down overall winner. I have seen the RS Avant and the E55 AMG Wagon, and they are Euro stylish which means boring. The Magnum has splash, pizzazz, and spirit to go with all that Horsepower. It also has cubic inches and no superchargers or turbochargers to create that horsepower.

Okay, it's a Dodge, and that may not conjur up visions of Quality Control. But I'd rather pay for something out of warranty out-of-pocket on a Dodge, than at the other two dealerships. I deal with the Porsche and Mercedes dealerships (Brumos) here all the time. The are friendly, cordial, and meticulous with the repairs I have needed. They provide a loaner car if the item is under warranty or will take more than a day. As nice as the folks are at Jacksonville Chrysler Jeep Dodge have been, and as good as they are on dealing on new cars and making timely correct repairs, they have never provided me with a free loaner car.

Then again, my average Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 major service or REPAIR bill has been less than $600 (they DO provide a loaner for major service OVER that amount). My average bill at the Porsche Dealer is about $2,000 when I take it in. No matter WHAT happens to the Porsche or whatever needs repair, the bill somehow always ends up in that range. Of course the Porsche was almost $100k new. Bob Snodgrass himself once had a bumper sticker on his Mercedes S600 that said "Hundred Thousand Dollar cars are made of Thousand Dollar parts."

And WHICH of these three wagons will draw the MOST attention in ANY parking lot FROM any age GROUP or any social strata?
    Ahhhhhh, yes.
    Red, gotta be red.

Talk to your local Mercedes-Benz dealer. Or www.BrumosMotorcars.com Find their toll free number and ask for Earl in the sales department. Exclusive cars don't always SHOW up on the websites.
