    Joined the SRT-8 club!

Hey. Been a Magnum RT owner for 16 months but that all changed yesterday. I've been looking every few weeks at my local dealer inventories to see if any SRT-8 pop up. ( I look at about 15-20 dealers in a 50 mi range). To my surprise, they listed two (!) Magnum SRT-8s in the dealer inventory. Well, of course I called.

All said and done, they sold me a silver Magnum SRT-8, at invoice, yesterday after a quick phone call in the morning to set up a test drive. This is the fourth vehicle I purchased from this dealer - they definitely know how to treat you right.

This car just rocks! It has most of the kind of mods I wanted to do to my RT already built right in, and something else almost no unboosted RT can claim: 420 hp! Whew! Only a few things I want to do to it like replacing the tinted headlights with the clear ones (clear goes better on a silver car) and replace the grille with something lighter (silver or chrome, maybe I'll just paint the original grille).

BTW: The engine/tranny doesn't whine, just the other drivers in my rearview mirror.

Congrat's on the purchase! The whining won't start until you get about 6,000 miles on the vehicle. I never knew what everyone was talking about until mine started doing it as well. Definitely is noticeable, about the same level as a supercharger.

Congrats and welcome to the club! Nice choice on the silver.

You might THINK you'll only do a coupla mods, but believe me... look at my sigimage... you'l get hooked anyway!! You're right on the headlights, on a silver car the chromies will look better, and I would paint the grille to match the body as well.

Engine whine does not take long to set in if you get it (some never do). Mine started pretty much right away. Official word from SRT engineers is that you're hearing the oil squirters at the underside of the motor and it's normal.

Enjoy the ride and remember... no WOT from a stop for the first 300 miles or so, but WOT at highway speeds is encouraged (it's in your book). So let 'er rip!!

Don't look at his sigimage. You will suddenly find yourself lusting after women with very bad bowl haircuts and man-sized hands.

Thanks for the welcome. I always try to keep the right foot kinda light for a few hundred miles as is recommended, but darn if this is the hardest car to keep out of WOT.

My RT was a trade in. I thought about just selling it myself but didn't want to get stuck with 2 payments for a month or so. The dealer gave me 22750 for my 05 RT. It only had 7200 miles on it but only opt group 1 and a sunroof. This compares pretty well with NADA and KBB trade-in values. Yeah, I know. Coulda got more for a perfect car (and I mean perfect-i live one mile from work and the thing is garaged all the time) with lo miles but figured it was a fair price with no hassels.

Anyone got pics of the SRT8 in silver with an afermarket grille?

Good luck, you're one of the very few that got silver, and so far I don't know any SRT owner in any color that has swapped out the grille. We all just seem to love it the way it is.

Because of the different fitment a standard Magnum grille probably won't fit, so it may be tough to find an SRT-specific aftermarket grille.
