    High Flow Cats on 6.1s?

    Ok, someone save me some agony, who has highflow cats on their SRT? and do you have problems with CELs?

    I am thinking of putting a JBA cat back on, and leaving the stock headers for now. I thought I read here that someone got great HP gains from a set of high flow cats?

    Can anybody steer me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

    Don

    Just had mine put on yesterday. So far so good, no CEL's. As for dyno numbers, I think 8-12 HP at the wheels or in that vicinity.

    My SOP dyno can't tell any difference.

    Have to do anything special with O2 Sensors or anything?

    Thanks,

    CEL comes on whenever I drive the car hard for at least 3 trips. Turns back off when I drive the car normal for at least 3 trips. I put on the cats same time as the head package so I am unable to comment on power increase just on cats alone. I gained 42-45 hp with the complete head package setup. GSM is worknig on a simulator that should fix the issue

    THanks Freak, any dyno sheets you can share? What cats did you put on?

    Thanks,

    I'm still a little leary about this mod. I've got a feeling that everyone automatically chimes in that the cats are the most restrictive part of our exhaust, cause that's what they've always been told in the past.

    Now I'm not suggesting that anyone wasted their money. I'd just like to see a before and after dyno, which I know isn't likely to happen due to cost and impracticality.

    I would like to suggest an idea, however. We did this on another car forum I belong to. There was a mod that everyone wanted to see dyno #'s on. One individual offered to do before and after dynos if folks would chip in. So we got a list of interested people to commit, and this guy had the dyno done and posted the graphs. Each of the people on the list then paypal'd the guy $5. If someone is willing to do this, I'll be the first on the list.

    For now, however, I have the JBA on the way and I'm keeping the stock cats. I just can't see paying more for cats than for my catback without some proof (I don't have dyno proof on the JBA either, but I'm doing that mod for sound, so it really doesn't matter).

    Last note: There is an exhaust shop in Annapolis that I discussed this with last weekend. The owner of that shop knows a VERY high level person at Magnaflow. That Magnaflow person told him that cats are federally regulated, and that there is "only so much they can do" to improve on cats. So while that statement isn't quantitative, it gives you something to think about.

    I have the Magnaflow cats and catback exhaust as well as the Mopar CAI. No CEL's, although the aft O2 sensor on the passenger side is somewhat stretched.

    After the CAI I noticed no increase in power, but a lot more engine noise. Good noise too. After the Magnaflow catback I noticed some pick up in power above 3,000 rpms. After the high flow cats I notice even more top end as well as the engine rev-ing quicker.

    The dyno's I've seen for these mod's have shown:

    CAI = 5-7HP
    Catback = 10-12HP
    Hiflow Cats = 10-12HP

    My butt dyno felt like 0, 10 and 10. So I figure I netted about 20 rwhp.

    chris, i'm still thinking about this mod...not sure yet, because i've been told by many that it will increase exhaust noise..i'm not going to do the l-tubes, because i found out that the stock SRT headers are similar to the jba shorties....thanks, jimmy
